Thank you all so much for your supportive messages and endorsement of our handling strategy. I knew my MSE chums would understand. A few days have passed now and we are calm about it. We think that the arrival of the bill would have been very amusing to watch but by then we were happily back at our hotel having a coffee. We won't be going back to visit anytime soon which is a shame as it is a very nice place but our next holiday will be somewhere entirely different. Not much happening on the money front for another week. All direct debits are paid and all bills paid so the current account is static which is, of course, a good thing but there isn't even a teeny weeny Tilly tidy to do. Anyway in a flash of inspiration I thought this would be a good time to cash out on prolific and add that money to the AMG pot. I've also got £15 from £co that's payable too. Some money lands into the account on 18th and that funds the Skipton regular saver and tops up the various Chase savings pots. The Chase account was great on holiday - no foreign exchange charges and easy to move funds from holiday pot to spending pot.7

Today could have turned into an "I need a new candle" type of day but an incorrect apostrophe saved me from myself. In my emails this morning was a save loads of money on your must have autumn candles type message. I instantly decided I needed to find out more about this generous and enticing offer and my finger clicked the link in double quick time whilst I was chatting in my head about an entirely appropriate use of personal spends money. And there is was ... Yankee candle Witches'es Brew 🙄
after I'd discussed apostrophes with MrBC over coffee and crossaint's 🤣 I went to the candle sideboard and dug out a good selection of suitable shopped from home candles. I just need to get to end of November as I already have my candle advent calendar and then I'm fairly confident that Santa will bring me at least 1 candle.Purse stayed shut and personal spends are intact.5 -
Excellent work. I am not grammatically perfect by any means but that would have put me right off!https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6466032/an-in-between-phase

I can’t abide apostrophe abuse 😬 It really annoys me. That aside well done on resisting temptation.I bet you would’ve loved to have been a fly on the wall when that bill arrived - serves them right 🤣I get knocked down but I get up again (Chumbawamba, Tubthumping)1

I have to confess I have neber got the apostrophe rule correct despite going to a girls' school. Is that correct? I think thats what I was taught but it was over 55years ago. I must admit I tend to ignore them along with with many others.

That is pretty hilarious grammar.
Love that you were tempted by a candle despite having cupboards seeming loaded with them. I'm like that with paint...Achieve FIRE/Mortgage Neutrality in 2030

Written grammar doesnt worry me too much as there is so much badly written stuff these days. The thing that really bugs me is adding an s onto to words that end in s e.g. Wales becomes Waleses when speaking and what has happened to t in the middle of words. Sorry Blackcats to take over with my moans.

Thanks @Sun_Addict @ladyholly and @savingholmes - my mum was pedantic about speaking and writing "properly" and my English teacher at secondary school was a very strict Nun who had a mission to uphold the rules of grammar. I do have to think about where apostrophes go, particularly when it's a plural and if I'm not sure I resort to the French approach of la plume de ma tante and re-arrange my sentence to something like the Dreamies for my cats instead of trying to decide if it's my cats' dreamies or my cat's dreamies. It's definitely not my cats'es dreamies 🤦♀️. The thought of Sister Michael still makes me a bit nervous.
we made a Friday night curry last night using a spice kit from my stash. Chicken Murgh Kari with rice and MrBC made some fab onion bhajis. I made a yoghurt/cucumber dip and a tomato and onion salad. There was some left for tonight which we bulked out with some Dahl from the freezer. It was a real winner, particularly as we have been out visiting family all afternoon and could easily have opted for a takeaway if we hadn't had a meal ready and waiting for us.
