It is totally shocking re the energy companies. They should not be allowed to hold onto money like that.
Marmite and cheese crumpets - wow!3 -
Yes, Thatcher's privatisation of essential utilities certainly didn't provide the customer choice that was intended/promised. It's doubtless syphoned plenty of our hard-earned money into the offshore accounts of their shareholders though. It actually motivates me with energy saving because I like to think I'm keeping as much of our money out of their pockets as possible.

Really interesting comments on the powerful power companies. It's a great tactic to give them as little of our money as possible. I sneakily turned my dad's heating down 1 degree today - it's like a sauna in his house so I don't think he will notice. When the promised heatwave hits I'll turn it down again.
I bought a nin-ja air fryer using a lifetime's worth of nectar points a couple of months ago and I've only turned the oven on a couple of times since we got it. The food tastes fantastic too.
I'm feeling a bit unsettled today - I still haven't finalised what's happening at work but my friend helpfully reminded me that I've resigned and I'm retiring. If they can offer me some part time work that suits me then that's ok, if not I need to stick to plan A.

Thank you for your reassurance about plan A. I've agreed to full time til end of August (it's a Very quiet month) and then 2 days per week til end of December with a view to continuing til end of March. No hoops to jump through which is what I was worried about - HR wanting job descriptions, finance wanting business case etc.
I had a good week with food shopping and olio and I think I'll come in under my food budget this month. Gas/electricity statement came through today. It's my first month on the higher tariff and I've used £10 less than my direct debit. Will aim to build up as much credit as I can before the winter.
savingholmes I really recommend the ninja. I read about how sunaddict uses hers and was sold on the idea. The food cooks so well and is delicious - chips are gorgeous! It's such beautiful weather today - we went for a long walk mid morning and took a cheese salad baguette (baguette from olio), some easy peelers (olio) and some home made banana cake - you guessed it, made using olio bananas and a flask of tea for me and coffee for OH. Not quite a free lunch but very inexpensive and we ate it in the most beautiful location surrounded by beautiful countryside.4
