Hi all
This is really simple. We are a large family and between us we have lots of shoes. Our house is carpeted throughout so everybody must take their shoes off at the front door and leave them in the hall. However this then creates a huge mountain of shoes. We can’t be the only ones in this situation. So...Hiw do you control your shoe mountain in the hall?

While I don't operate a 'no shoes' rule, I think your problem may be that people aren't putting their shoes away. OK, so you choose to take your shoes off in the hall but they don't have to stay there. What I'd suggest is that everyone establishes a place where they keep their shoes. For me it's the bottom of my wardrobe, mostly in boxes. IKEA do racks too. Then have a rule that the next time someone goes upstairs they take the shoes with them and drop them off in respective bedrooms.:)0

Wooden shoe racks! If you have a branch of The Range anywhere nearby they do a splendid (and very cheap) one. You could have a line of them through the hallway.0

No shoes for us - but we don't have kids.
Mine (LOTS!) live either next to my wardrobe (usually 2 pairs max which I wear often), some in a small basket which I want to keep handy, lots in an ottoman in clear boxes, some I don't wear often in clear boxes under a lift-up bed, and some in their original boxes under my bed.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
We have a no shoes policy in he house too,but we also say that no more than 2 pairs of shoes can be by the door at any one time foe each person...afterall you can only wear one pair at a time.

We have a very messy walk in cupboard near the front door
Looks reet when the door is shut thoWith love, POSR0 -
Just told my lodger for the final time that if I fall over another pair of shoes at the bottom of the stairs they're going in the bin. I don't care if they're Crocs or Louboutins. They're being binned. That seems to have done the trick and they're nicely lined up on a wooden shoe rack outside her bedroom door.
FYI I have no ACL in my knee and it's v unstable so a slight wobble will be enough to throw me over and her shoes do it. Every. Single. Bloomin. Morning0 -
If you have space in the hall then one of those shoe unit thingies keep them neat and tidy. Take a look at IKEA or Wayfair.
Set a limit, say two pairs of everyday shoes per person, the rest get put away in their rooms.0 -
the best thing I ever had for shoes was a rack which went over the back of the loo door, and everyone always put their shoes on that.
But then we moved, and there was no handy loo door to put it over, and it didn't 'work' on the back of the front door, and I have had a pile of shoes in the hallway ever since, despite investing in a nice rack with bench to sit on, and the offspring having moved on. I just need to be more disciplined ...Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
I have two pairs of boots in the hall, as does my mate, the rest we have a bookshelf each for. Although I do have a few pairs of big boots in the wardrobe as they don't fit nicely in my bookshelf.Mortgage started 2020, aiming to clear 31/12/2029.0

Ikea make shoe cupboards, I use one of those, everyday shoes all out of sight, going out shoes in boxes under my bed.
