  • Haha, I like how everyone else thinks stocking up is loo roll and pasta and we think Jaffa cakes and aero balls  #priorities

I don't want to be accused of stockpiling Aero balls so that's why I eat them.
Today's announcements are quite scary.  I feel sad for staff being put onto unpaid leave by airlines and other employers.  It must be so frightening and very few people have much of a cushion in their finances.
  • It is unnerving. Our work and school are still open for now. I have a £2k cushion, plus another £1k in various pots. I can't see my work closing, especially as I'm a lone worker in my office and the nature of my job. At most, if I have to work from home I'll have to get a laptop sooner than planned and I only have £300 in that pot at the moment. But, again, I'm a lone worker in a quiet place that's got no police. I had one funeral completely rearrange overnight and I'm continuing to cover another office who is now rearranging 3 funerals. I've told them to send some of the work to me, but she seems to just like sending the phones over, which isn't much help as I've no info about their families.
Anyway, I've checked in on my older folk who need someone to watch out for them and there looks to be a village community assistance that I'll volunteer for and I dropped my number at the village shop for anyone who needs supplies taking to them.

Well done Fran for building up that emergency cushion, you must feel reassured by that.
How kind to offer to help the vulnerable in the community - the current situation brings out the best in people.  Unfortunately it brings out the worst too like the people stealing the hand sanitizers from the walls in hospitals.  How the world has changed since your parents went off on their cruise.  It must be strange for them watching it all unfold from a distance.

If your work wants you to work from home they should provide you with equipment to do that. My work has sent everyone to WFH and those that don't have company laptops have taken the desktops they use at work home - would that be an option for you?
  • Thanks feeldaburn, I honestly think that I won't be working from home. I'm a lone worker at a funeral directors, we'll still be needed during this time. I'm just taking things one day at a time and not worrying really. We have things in place and I have cleaned down the door and handle each time anyone has come in.

Blackcats, people stealing that is awful. I popped into our dr's to pick up some paperwork and it was so quiet. But mum's friend was in, so that was nice to catch up with her. The sanitiser was out everywhere and door kept open. Our local pub is going to be playing music out on their sound system at 7pm for us to all sing along to a song and shine our torches out in our gardens and plan to do it each week. I'm on the village and town volunteer lists.

And the news is that the schools are closed from Friday until they say otherwise.

Could you do video calling/telephone for appointments it's not ideal in your situation but after the initial consultation it may be the best way to avoid contact.

  • Thanks Sarah, we're doing a lot of phone call consultations, but I need to be at the office as there are a lot of paperwork elements that come together from drs, coroner's and registrar's etc. To then go off to companies, crematoria, hospitals, councils, churches etc.

Thankfully I have young parents who will be repaying the 3 months of looking after everything for them  and my boyfriend is coming over from Friday. At least this will test our relationship! Hahaha. How to know if we can make a marriage work, have a global pandemic and possible lockdown. He wants to be here with us in case it does happen, which is adorable.

We're very much making the best of things and helping others where we can
