    Yes.

Buy a USB stick (at least 8GB) if you don't already have one you can use.

Download and run the Win10 Media Creation Tool and use it to set up the USB stick as your installation medium.

Run setup.exe from the USB stick.

    Follow the prompts.

If that's too sketchy, then read this article.

    Thanks, :T

    From the Real world

Windows 10 upgrades do fail on some windows 7 PC and some are unupgradable
The checking mechanism is not totally reliable
You need plenty of free space

    On a clean install
Dell windows 10 reinstall media does not work properly
Their support advise making the usb creation tool as above which also does not work
Th only reliable way I have found for a clean install is to create an iso via the media creation tool and then use rufus to burn to bootable USB
    This works faultlessly
I am not clear on the nuances of activation if one does this in terms of OEM etc
    someone else may know

    OR....

you just carry on with W7 and just make sure you've got up-to-date A/V on there,

Be careful throwing that one out there as advice GunJack me old matey ..

I understand what you mean but saying it like that might make someone reading this think that they don't need to worry about unpatched vulnerabilities in the OS as long as their AV is up to date which is NOT the case.

An exploit running against an OS vulnerability cannot be hooked by any antivirus software

Andy, yes it's one of those that you've got to weigh up for yourself.... I for one (and I suspect you, probably) would be reasonably comfortable with this, others probably not so...

and at least your hardware will continue to work as there'll be no W10 driver updates to stop various bits working....

...as for the second half of my post, I've seen way too many decent, useful, working machines borked by W10 driver updates, that you're also playing russian roulette with not-that-old hardware failing to work, with the only other solution to staying with W7 is to get a newer machine with W10...hardly environmentally friendly :(

Question. Why did you purchase an out of date operating system?
Quite a few toe-rag companies on ebay give 7 away for free, but want an extra £10 for win 10. I'd save the £10!
