The only problem with going for the mutual option AFAIK is unless the buyer completes their agreement to the process ebay will just close the dispute after 7 days and you do not get your fees back. Several people on the ebay boards have been caught by this.
Personally I would have gone for the full NPB process and guaranteed my fees back and a strike on their account.

Gutted, what happens if they don't respond can I not do anything then? Will leave me a bit out of pocket. I've sent the buyer an e-mail telling them to expect the e-mail. Guess I was just trying to be nice!2p off is still 2p off!0 -

I've double checked this and yes my fears are correct. Unless th ebuyer confirms their agreement you don't get your fvfs back and you can't reopen the NPB dispute: The actual statement is here (cut and pasted)
"Sellers can file a mutual agreement not to complete the transaction immediately; however, if the buyer disagrees, the seller will not receive a Final Value Fee (FVF) credit and will not be able to re-file. The buyer will not receive a strike. eBay strongly recommends that sellers confirm mutual agreement before utilising this function. If the seller is uncertain about how the buyer will respond, "

B*lls, fingers crossed then me thinks, going to be so mad if they don't respond as I've gone out of my way to be nice and helpful to them2p off is still 2p off!0

Got my FVF back, the other seller must have agreed to end the transaction, they didn't respond to my e-mail though, asking what exactly had eBay said and to forward me the e-mail. Should I -ve them? The only reason I ask is I don't want a dirty red mark back! They're not a seller and just a buyer.2p off is still 2p off!0

i say go for it, don't be held to ransom! If your feedback's pretty good then you've nowt to worry about. They however sound like they don't understand the ebay bits and bobs full stop, and have been a bit of an irritating nightmare for you. At least you've got your FVF's back.
You could wait the 90 days or whatever it is and see if they forget about it then neg them.0 -
Cheers, I'm thinking because they're a newbie or unexperienced that they might not neg me back??? But maybe that's wishful thinking!2p off is still 2p off!0

If you neg a newbie they can just close their account and start again after having spoilt your rating with a retaliatory neg.
A strike on their account would have been much more useful, but as you went for a mutual NPB they didn't even get that.
I don't really understand why you went for a mutual NPB but still want to leave a neg? Surely if you mutually agreed not to proceed you were content not to do so. If you do neg they can just follow up with the statement:
" ??? seller agreed not to proceed " .
