Forced password change

I was forced to change my password due to some pending forum changes.
I was perfectly happy with my own password. I think more consideration needs to be given to the wider circumstances. I have now been forced to choose a password that I simply will not remember causing me further stress.
This site is not the only password we have to remember you know. I literally have over one hundred with my work and personal life and it is far too much.
If you are taking security seriously then you would have two factor security available which is much better and allow devices to be trusted. Any security policy such as this needs to be workable in the first instance and with this current changes I don't feel that enough consideration has been given.

Hi everyone
Password Change is not necessary.
The message in the banner stated:New house, same home….
The Forum platform is changing (read more). It's really important your registered Forum email address is up to date before 3 February 2020 or you will lose access to your account after the move.
Update Email Address
Unfortunately, one of the limitations of our current forum software is that it uses the same page to check/change email and change password. And that page isn't laid out as clearly as it could be.
You can change your email address on the above-linked page while leaving the "New Password" and "Confirm New Password" area blank.
If the email address listed there is your current email address, no change is necessary.Official MSE Forum Team memberThis account's Inbox is not monitoredPlease report all problem posts to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Thanks,
Upon logging into the site a message popped up saying I had to confirm my details or I would lose my account and when I entered my password it said it was too weak and would not let me continue. In fact it took me 15 minutes to find an appropriate password (which I didn't want to use).
So, I didn't even have to change it? Seems confusing.0 -

I think you misread the message - it was asking you to check your account email address was correct, that's all. If it was, you didn't need to do anything. Although I don't think you're the only one to have been caught out.All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
