You think not refunding in full is decent?
    Was that not crystal clear?

1100 quid refund is pretty decent. 100 quids worth of car hire and you are pretty much back where you started. Decent dealer by the sounds of it.

From post 9 seems the dealer is not refunding at all; not my idea of a 'decent dealer'.

"So you've now lost £1200 and the car."

Not really but if like your you're ignorant to consumer law then I can see how they may appear that way.

    Name. And. Shame.
  • My 2005 Combo (Corsa van) did this..as Facade says it was the brake servo.
Was told it was a £500 job so i did it myself with some Mapei shower tanking tape and brushabke sealer.

The difficult bit will be trying to get the carpets dry again, particularly in this weather.

It will probably need the carpets removing to do the job properly which will also involve removing the seats and a lot of trim pieces.

Sigh, the dealers union on here don't seem to understand the law. If you buy from a private seller, it is your responsibility to find any faults. A private seller can't be reasonably considered an expert, therefore it isn't their fault if they missed something.

If you are a dealer, a professional car seller, you are considered an expert. Therefore you expected to look over your stock and declare any faults.
And you forget the key detail - that the rights are tempered by reasonable expectations for used goods of that age/apparent condition/price.

It's a grand's-worth of shed. It's one problem away from the scrappy.
  • Well it was £1200 actually and more than I've ever had top spend on a car. So called 'sheds' have done me well for over 40 yrs motoring; you shouldn't assume they will be no good and people should expect problems.

I'm confused. If this were a 24hr old washing machine that was faulty for example, you wouldn't expect a reduction on the refund for an admin fee.

I don't understand why some people are saying that's acceptable on a car? Are the legalities different?
