Election impact on investments

So no good being "older", or "working class" or, I have read somewhere here "living in a rural location", "being white", "low education level"..........seems there's not many left who can be regarded as competant to vote!
Arguably its the political elite that need to look in the mirror. After all they are suppose to represent the people not lecture ideology at them. Listening would be a major step forward.0 -
Talking of voting competence... Who the heck lives in Islington? Their voting pattern is weird; like it’s a different country.0
-
The biggest problem is that Tories take far fewer votes to convert to a seat than Labour do, so even where voting % is equal, the Conservatives win every time.
FPTP is a profoundly 'unfair' system. The Tories do not have a mandate (through popular support) to commence what they wish to do with Brexit, but our voting system has allowed them to do so.
People get the governments they deserve. I find that very difficult to argue with, as unpleasant as I might find this result.
Can you expand on your 1st point as I’m unsure if I understand it fully?
I think the Tories have a mandate for Brexit. More than 50% voted for ‘it’ whatever ‘it’ was. If the referendum had more than 2 choices then we would have remained in the EU despite that option being supported by a minority.
I assume the majority of the population support FPTP so that binds them to decisions under this system.0 -

i'm from Darlington, but I think the voting in of a new Conservative MP was due more to the utter incompetence and laziness of the previous incumbent - Jenny Chapman. Also the wasteful and utterly woeful Labour council was kicked out earlier this year and replaced with a Tory led one.
I think Brexit and the lunatic tramp played some part in the sea change in Darlington, but it has voted tory in the past and I think the local electorate decided they could get better value elsewhere.0 -
It's very, very, simple, Labour weren't electable they had a manifesto that was way too far to the left and they need to learn from the election and I personally will never forgive Brown for raiding the pensions. I remember the 70's, strikes every day of the week, mass unemployment etc, this country would have been on it's knees if they had got in with their crackpot manifesto and then where would we all be?
L/Dems decided they weren't going to be democratic and abide by the Brexit result and cancel article 50, so therefore they weren't electable...………...I know remainers' who wouldn't vote for them.
Unfortunately that only leaves the Conservatives, not ideal but hopefully the best of a bad bunch, Boris has his faults but at least he wanted to end the stablemate of Brexit and look to get the country moving forward which has to be a good thing.
Labour are bleating on trying to blame the loss on Brexit, but they let down their voters for not honouring the Brexit result, the only time they have won in the last 50 years is when they have been more centralist, they need less union interference and need to have a rethink as I want to see a strong opposition, but the way Labour are going they will be in the doldrums for decades!! and deservedly so until they get some common sense0 -
We are all going to have our own views and I wouldn’t normally bother expressing mine . Only doing so because I am very angry over remarks from my own ( Tory) MP that amount to those in this constituency that didn’t vote for me don’t count and are no concern of mine ! Don’t think it works like that .
I have a lucky life - retired early with a reasonable pension, own property and have savings and investments.
Never a Tory never will be . I don’t need a luxury tour of India , expensive clothes and jewellery what I need is health and social care , for the young people in my pretty but deprived town to have access to good education, to well paying jobs . Secure homes There to be public transport so we can move around our semi rural area.
The thing is that people get more right wing the more wealth they acquire . Unwilling to have an income of £35,000 if they can squeeze the less fortunate and have one of £36000.
My children work hard . They don’t earn enough to buy houses probably never will. They don’t have final salary pensions .
So they are far less likely than my generation to move politically to the right so I can’t necessarily agree that the conservatives will remain in power for decades to come.
I hope when I leave this world I am leaving a kinder and more caring one than it is today.0 -

I don't disagree, and that's where Labour let themselves down, change IS needed but it takes time and Labours policy was just too extreme in too short a timeframe0 -

Traditionally people become more conservative as they get older. I read an article recently that said demographically that may change in the future for various reasons people as people are more liberal or more likely to vote for Labour.0 -
I personally am disappointing at a Tory Govt and the size of their majority but I accept it. What I am most concerned about is the nature of those MP's who hold this majority - particularly the cabinet. They have been appointed and recruited specifically because of their stance on Brexit and would appear to have largely right-wing views. To my mind this suggests that many of the most vulnerable in society, who probably supported them this time due to their stance on Brexit and the unpopularity/stance of other parties, are the most likely to suffer when economic and policy decisions are made - whatever BJ's current rhetoric about looking after them.
