Renting in London

We are in Chelmsford (30-35 minutes to Liverpool St station) and the platforms are packed 7-8.30am each weekday with commuters. The trains are generally full too, as people are moving even further east to get more affordable property, so the trains fill up around Colchester and then the smaller stations nearer Chelmsford.
If you can bear the daily commute (which can't be so bad as thousands do it daily) then look around the Chelmsford area. Rentals affordable for someone on a City salary, and lots of charming villages to choose from.
There is also house sharing in London to consider. My nephew moved to London for a decent job and got a share in a house in Hampstead. I think he pays around £800-900 per month but has no transport costs as he is able to cycle to work. Worth considering I would have thought?0 -
Sod that - sounds like a nightmare commute!
I work at Liverpool Street and commute from lovely Leigh-on-Sea. It's not the quickest, but it's one really nice train, then I walk.
Spend more time on finding the right location. Totally agree with getting a train into Liv St (overheads are fine, certainly doesn't have to be a tube).
You also have the option of Moorgate, Fenchurch Street, Cannon Street and obviously all the tube stops nearby.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -

One more voice for direct link to Liverpool street. It makes absolutely no sense to deliberately go for a place with links to the wrong London terminal station. Unless you have friends/family in Watford. You are loading 30-60min to your commute + expenses for no apparent reason.
Worked at Euston for about 2 years, I wouldn't dream about taking a bus to/from there in peak hours, unless I wanted some nap time.
There are plenty of comparable places (already mentioned in other comments) to the east with direct links to Liverpool street, either by train or tube.0 -
If you want to go west, the Central line from South Ruislip, or metropolitan from Eastcote, or further out to Uxbridge, or the other branch out towards Northwood, Northwood Hills, Rickmansworth. Or overground from chingford, Enfield.
Liverpool Street is easier to get to from practically anywhere other than Watford.0 -
Check out Highams Park, E4 (near Chingford). Easy for Liv St https://www.spareroom.co.uk/flatshare/?search_id=907899643&

I think you might be forgetting there's three Met branches...
Why on earth was the OP wanting to get off at Euston lol. Just stay on the tube! Sorted. Although it would be a far quicker journey from East.
OP - also look at Walthamstow.2024 wins: *must start comping again!*0 -
I appreciate this website is for buying, but might be useful: http://www.commutefrom.com/
My initial thoughts would be to look at living somewhere East."If you aren’t willing to own a stock for ten years, don’t even think about owning it for ten minutes” Warren Buffett
