Le creuset discount on website

Options
Hello all, over the weekend i purchased some le creuset l cast iron cookware on their website. At the checkout the items were discounted, I presumed due to their online sale. Today I have had an email saying beyond their control they cannot allow this sale and I have 48 hours to reply if I want to pay the higher price for these goods or be refunded. Following purchase of these items I received a confirmation email and code and also the money was taken straight away from my credit card. I checked their terms and conditions and it states that a contract is made when an email confirmation is recieved and payment taken, all of which has happened. Where do I stand now? I have pointed them to their terms and conditions but not yet heard back. Should they honour this sale?

What does their terms and conditions say about items priced incorrectly?

  • How cheap are we talking? Companies are allowed to rectify pricing mistakes. You say the items were reduced in the basket and presumed they were part of the online sale, which implies the price at the checkout was different to what you expected. if I was buying an item that was £100 and the site was 20% off, I would expect it to be £80 in the checkout procedure. If it was £40 I would realise there was a mistake. (Id definitely give it a bash, dont get me wrong, but I wouldnt be surprised to have it cancelled)
  • Their standard 30% discount was applied at checkout alongside another discount code which just made me think they’ve got a special on over the weekend. Once two sets were added to the basket this is when the other discount kicked in, which is why I thought it was a special offer. Anyway see how it turns out.

That seems a hell of a discount to me. I don't know enough about Le Cruset to know if that would raise flags though.

So the 30% 'standard' discount is £180 off taking it to £420

You are saying they took an additional 50% off that discounted price? Its a clear mistake. They can cancel.

We had the same experience, purchased two round casseroles on the 9th and in the basket it applied a 2 for £150 discount and a 30% off discount, giving us a total of £105 (un-discounted total was £500). We received website confirmation, email confirmation and order number, shipping confirmation, and our bank account was charged, but then we got the email that they made a mistake and we had 48 hours either to cancel our order and receive a refund or accept the correct price (which they did not specify).

We followed up with an email asking the amended price, citing the ToC, and expressing our disappointment, but then got a generic email that they are busy and will respond by email within 5 days (too long for the 48 hour deadline), but also gave the options of calling in or live chatting for a more immediate response. Went to the link given in the email, no live chat is on the site. Tried calling and all customer service representatives apparently unavailable due to training...

I don't know about you 339lewis, but we are going to try to fight them on it. Seems just really unprofessional and lacking in basic integrity. If they make a mistake, they should own up to it, or should have canceled the order at an earlier stage. It's not like we knowingly were taking advantage of a mistake or were trying to buy in bulk and resell—everything on the website and confirmation process seemed legitimate.
