Well, I work in horse racing, and since I lurk this forum every day, maybe I can contribute!? I don't think France or Ireland has any courses that race that often. Racing isn't that popular in too many other countries... so, to be honest, the only race course I can think of outside of the UK that races that often, particularly on Wednesday and Sunday, is Happy Valley in Hong Kong!

UK horse racing is very different- horses don't live at tracks like in the US, for example, where horses run (generally) much shorter races and therefore much more often. Here most tracks only race a few days a year. We're a small country so it is possible for horses to get to any UK track from just about anywhere they would be trained. Generally, our training centres, like Malton, Lambourn, and Middleham, don't even have courses at all- though Newmarket, the very biggest, with around 2,000 horses, and known as 'Headquarters', does. I just looked, and even Newmarket only does 43 days next year and that includes both of its two courses. Uttoxeter, an average sort of course, is doing about 25 in total.

You can see why people misunderstood now- and other people can see why you didn't think to mention your location, because you/they couldn't possibly have known how differently we do things!

Perhaps somewhere in Australia then, or America, or the middle east. Failing that, it could just be some random European country with very few courses for the entire country and that being the entirety of racing there. I'll just shut up, I clearly don't have much clue :rotfl:

OK I see... so I guess I have to check out if horses live in the premises? If they do, then I would be dealing with what? smells?

How can we know? You wont say which course, you mention a building between you and the course. You give no other useful details, what can we possibly tell you that you cant find out by walking around?
    63 mortgage payments to go.

    Zero wins 2016 😥
  • As someone who has lived in Newmarket which is practically governed by the horseracing industry, the only thing that frustrated me was the town being brought to a standstill on race days (hour long queue to get out the car park) and constantly having to give way at crossings to horses.

Flats with a view of the training ground awere sold at a premium and people generally wanted to be overlooking some sort of horse racing infrastructure somewhere.

But then the whole town is geared to the industry so it probably attracted like minded people

Because in the UK there are many more racetracks than here so it's more possible to find people with experience living close to them??? And because there are no forums with such topics in my country so I have to look abroad... is it not allowed to post here if one is not British???

Of course anyone in the world can post however nobody, even those living right next to a U.K. racecourse would have any idea about living next to a racetrack in another country, especially when you clearly don't want to say which country/track so are throwing away even your one in a billion chance that someone here could help.

Just as a few examples of why nobody can help
    1) no way of knowing how busy/popular the track is
    2) no way of knowing local parking laws/regulations
    3) no way of knowing local environmental laws (noise levels, alcohol on the premises, how do they dispose of waste)?
    4) does it attract much tourism? How does that affect the local cost of living?
    5) do animal rights activists routinely protest the track?

There are many other variables too
