Ok, so my target is £3600 and only because I've a standing order set up for this. I think next year will be particularly challenging for us so not sure where this money is going to come from.
Spend less now, work less later.
  • so i have been thinking about how i am going to save £12000 in 2020. i already save by dd £6,000 for retirement - 2023, so trying to maximise savings....it’s doable for another 2-3,000 but will be a stretch to get to £12,000 but i am determined to attempt it. now we are both over 60 we do get senior discounts which i love. i will endeavour to move any savings from my current account directly into savings gs account on a daily basis and see how much that saves over a year. took grandchildren swimming yesterday and saved £2. it’s a start!

Shaved £22 off my sky bill a month for 18 months today and cancelled Birchbox at 13 quid a month. So that’s 35 quid a month can be added into my savings efforts.

Trying to reduce bills and spends to I can save approx one third of my salary, live off a third and get bills down to a third. Seems like a realistic target for me right now to work to.

    Newbie here!:)

I'd like to join this challenge to begin saving for a deposit; £3500 for me pls.

However, I know I won't be providing any updates on this until second half of 2020 as I'm paying off a loan + CC and saving for an emergency fund (this is not included in the £3500 mentioned above).

    Thanks!
  • Hi Slowlyfading,

Another newbie here, can you sign me up for £4,000 this year.

I have been pondering about achieving our target, and I have worked out the following

As i mentioned in a previous post, this target is the bridge for my wife's retirement fund. That means long term savings.

Her salary will pay all our outgoings and allow for short term savings, so they will be discounted for the purposes of this thread.

    I am going to include
My state pension...I become an OAP next week
    My occupational pension
    My part time gardening job
Any increase/decreases in pension funds. Inc tax relief.
    Interests from saving.
    Solar panel FIT.

Any shortfall to be made up by pinching it from the short term savings!

So for interest purposes I will post the savings that occur during the month, but will only update my total at the end of the month.

Good luck everyone, thanks again to slowly fading for this thread and a happy new year to you all!
