No. You are not her parents. She can obviously get money out of her parents by not agreeing to anything that doesn't suit her. All her costs are her's alone and it is time she grew up.
  • Thanks for the replies. She wants £500, but to me it's not about the money is the principle. I think she is just throwing her toys out of the pram and I don't think she will pull out over £500. My OH on the other hand wants an easy life to is happy to pay her. I think we should tell the EA to stand up to her and that we should stand our ground.

your buyer reminds me what i went through few years back.... Me and my other half were renting a flat (tenancy agreement 12 months, with possibility to cancel after 6 months). Our contract specified exact days when we could give 1 month notice without being given a "penalty" (contract was really strict even though relationship with our landlord was really good). At that time (8 years ago) our rent was around £1,500.00/month (Greater London area). We were first time buyers and were lucky that no chain was involved. We started our conveyancing process in the beginning of September and were given exchange date mid December. We thought - an ideal situation! 3 months until exchange, first time buyers, no chain.. We gave a notice in our rented accommodation in November - to leave property in the end of December. In the middle of November we found out that exchange date has to be moved to January! (combination of "silly reasons" on our seller's side). We wouldn't be able to keep renting our old place (contract with new tenant already signed up), having no relatives in the UK - we would incur quite substantial additional cost (hotel, storage,...). In the end we paid a bit extra (around £500) - we exchanged and moved to our house on 15th December.
Maybe your buyer is trying to trick you, maybe she/he is genuine..
This situatin is stressful for everyone involved, how do you know what your buyer goes through and why did he/she snapped? What i find slighlyt odd is a comment about your EA being scared to ask additioanl questions.. If your EA communicates in professional way, i cant see the reason why your buyer shouldnt respond...

However the EA is scared to go back and ask for more info regarding her situation for fear of pushing her over the edge and her pulling out. The EA has advised us to contribute what she has asked for just to keep everything on track.

Based on this alone - remind them who they work for and if they want to get their fee decline your buyers request, and if the exchange doesn't go ahead then pull out and go with another Estate Agent.

If I could've thanked this post more than once I would've done as it's exactly what I would do in this situation :T

I know Estate Agents are just trying to do their job (get a sale) but effectively the Agents are now putting forward a lower offer by the same buyer after an offer was accepted and assuming after surveys and valuation has been carried out for no apparent reason other than the buyer wants £500 off a six figure transaction.

    JOKES

Do report back once you have NOT paid this joker.

I'd just tell her that's not how it works, as I suspect she thinks she's not asking for anything unreasonable. But it is the buyers' responsibility to work out things to accommodate possible changes of date and absorb the cost an inconvenience. TBH, I'd try not to be too harsh - no one teaches anyone this stuff, and FTB don't have any reason to know how changeable the whole thing is.
  • Whhhaaaaaatttttt? That's effectively getting extra discount on the house. no way! I would never fall for that. I had to sort out my own house move last year. I was a FTB in rented. I got my sh$t together and paid for removals.
