I'm just bobbing in for a frugal, introductory chat with all our newcomers and to catch up with our moneysaving returners before things get any more hectic. (Hi fruguys and gals!) Glad you can all join in the frugal fun for 2020 - a completely new decade!:T:j

Everyone joins this challenge for their own personal reasons, each aiming to achieve their own goals and reach specific financial destinations. Some of us just hope to survive on shoestrings and I'm probably one of the latter. :rotfl: The way I see it, if I can live on a shoestring then I can afford to stay in the black while leading the frugal and fun life I love. However, I will apologise now for my financial juggling act being even more extreme and erratic during the coming year as I have ponies to feed. :)

    HI there

Frugal, that is a very lovely thing that you have done and if I could help a little I would as I know the ponies are very important to you. Is there anything us none owning pony people can do to help support them?
I have decided my time management is now nonexistant and must be addressed, less time messing about and more time doing I think!!!!

  • I'd like to take part next year please.

I am hoping to have cleared all of my debts by end of 2020, although I would love to be debt free by my 40th in August, and I need to really scrimp and save to do it.

I've been given permission from the housing association to get chickens in my back garden and plan on growing some fruit and veg so that will be a pretty sizeable outlay over the first few months of the year, but I know it will save me money in the long term.

I've been working as a childminder since July but due to some recent changes to parents jobs and finances I have found myself £900 a month down, I still have enough to live but I didn't save any of the extra and am now very aware that if just one more child leaves things will be a struggle. I had to get a new car on finance as my main income was from children who I needed to collect and drop off, my old car was beyond repair and I had no savings to buy outright. Of course, as soon as I committed to the car payment those parents found themselves out of work, I sympathise and I know I am lucky to still have enough work to get by. I plan on advertising to try and get a couple of new children in the New Year.

    Thanks x

  • Hi

Re Audio books - my local library can be accessed through the Libby app and audio books can be downloaded there for free. If you can, make use of your nearest library, a lot can be done online. I can search their catalogue and order books from other libraries, all for free!

I am about to complete the transition to veganism, thanks to Game Changers giving me the final push. Thanks squirrelgirl for the tips on herbs. Any vegan cheese recommendations would also be very welcome. I tend not to like anything coconut based.

Anyhoo, after taking a couple of years off the full time treadmill to get my body and mind together, I find myself in quite a bit of debt. I’m not gonna lie, it was absolutely needed and I had some great times. I just need to pay for them now! I also reach the big 5-oh in 2020 and feel I really should be a bit better with this stuff by now.

Nice to meet you all and here’s to a happy, frugal year ahead 🙂

  • Hi, I'd like to join this challenge for 2020, please.

I've become debt-free this year and started to save, but there's a long way to go on the savings which are ultimately to have a "freedom from work" fund.

I've got two lots of expenses (which I know about) for next year, which is moving, when I find somewhere to move to, and refurnishing my new place. I've also got ongoing dental work which could just bleed me dry financially if I let it

Finally, when I was paying off the debts and the first bit of savings, I sort of treated it as if life was on hold, and put things off, but now I really do want to start living my "best life now"
