  • Hi I’m looking for a friendly group to keep me focussed in 2021 to use what I already have and spend a lot less including paying off debts.   I’m guessing you are continuing with this group next year, will there be a new thread?  🙏

Hi, @Couldsavemore and @rolorich. Lovely to meet you, welcome aboard. The new thread for 2021 is located on the Oldstyle board. More people may see it down there. It is already up and running so head on down and join now. Mumtoomany.

    Thanks for the welcome.
I'll look into the olio... but... err... should I be using it if I can afford to buy food? As others not in my situation may need it more... could I have some support on this moral dilema?

    Big wave to @rolorich..
I'm new here. Same as you want to cut down some of my spending and pay off debts. I really want to start saving for early retirement.

Hi @couldsavemore welcome!! If you look back a bit on this thread there is a lot of talk about this dilemma. Its a common thought that stops many using olio, unfortunately this leads to no-one picking up food and then it being thrown out. Good luck on the new quest! X

Budget set for 2021.  I'm going to try for £4,000 as my bills are quite low thanks to MSE and of course this thread.  Not expecting any more roof leaks or major spends at the moment but life has a way of throwing the unexpected large spend at me!

I'll keep trying with Olio, but think it will mainly be YS and the Lidl Fruit and Veg £1.50 boxes for me.  Been quietly buying YS meat during December to see if I could get enough for a month to last for at least January, plenty available so my grocery bill is going to be very low.  Think I only need to buy a few cleaning items, toiletries, eggs and salad.  Just managed to cram all the Turkey stock in the freezer, no room left so will start using it all up..

    Thanks Frugaldom

I've done a freezer inventory and have got a meal plan for this coming week.
Now that there's two of us, there's someone else to consider in all things homey. That's going to take some getting used to and some communication...wish me luck!
Thanks for the reminder about doing a meal plan, FrankieM... I do a regular freezer inventory but with shops opening and closing at different times and with trying to cut down on supermarket shop visits too a meal plan is more or less essential. All the best for the New Year and 2021. Stay safe and well!

  • We had a sort of turkey cobbler largely based on leftover gravy with leftover stuffing balls halved as the dumplings. It was astonishingly nice.

I've finally got hold of some veg on Olio (it's mostly bread round here and as I am gluten intolerant we don't use that much). @Frugaldom how do you recommend drying mushrooms?
