2020 Frugal Living Challenge

Still trying to be frugal here. Today, I cleaned both cars. Recently my son in law took his to be washed and said it had gone up to £12. So I was pondering the fact that I'd just saved myself £24 with an hours work and it set me thinking back to our old ways. Just two and a half years ago our joint salary was £70k. We were already debt free as life has always had its ups and downs, but we employed a cleaner, gardener, took our cars to be cleaned and much earlier than that paid for childcare then uni fees while we both worked silly hours. We also used to eat out around three times a week at £50 a time, plus takeaways once or twice a week. I'm now working part time and DH needs to find his next role. Our current income is £12k which isn't sustainable but we will make adjustments. Increasing income a little or cutting back even more. And life has never felt better.Spend less now, work less later.7

Not quite sure why I cant quote anymore?? Says I am 1 character short when I've written quite a long post?
Anyhow.....I was trying to respond that yes I will be going back to work in September. Boss is on about making a couple of redundancies but hoping that as a senior member of staff it wont affect me but who knows?
My frugal thing for the day is to pick a load of my mange tout at the allotment and use them in the stir fry we had for tea.

I’m shattered, long day cleaning and watering and catching up on annoying jobs. I’m out of anything useful to use as plant pots now. I might need to ask my friends for their empty ice cream tubs etc! I’m aiming for maximum window sill usage and ice cream tubs are perfect for that.Life happens, live it well.4

Wow Sparkly, you have done so well paying all that off you cc and persuading HRto adjust your hours so you don’t to pay for childcare. Sounds like you are on a roll.
thanks for the curd recipe Frugaldom.
I make soup with excess veg that I can’t give away and then freeze it for winter. I aim to have enough portions of soup to be able to have it for lunch most days in the winter...so about 30-40 portions. So far I have 19 portions put away...broccoli, cougette and green soup (cabbage, kale etc). Will do leek and potato, carrot, tomato and general veg. It’s really good not having to think about lunches for so much of the winter.Wombling £457.414 -
