In the real world out TV channels barley use 1080p let alone 4k. The shops show what the potential is not what you will get in the home watching normal channels.

OLED screens are by far the best screens available at the moment. They are darker than some LED screens but most people have their TVs set too bright anyway and after a week of using this display you'll probably start to wonder how you ever managed to watch your previous TV at such a bright setting. The only point it might be troublesome is if you're watching it in an extremely bright room, which you shouldn't do anyway.

Personally I think you'd be making a mistake but if you really aren't happy with the picture take it back, I'm sure they'll exchange it for you.

The content that was playing in the store was likely 4k, 60p and HDR (high dynamic range).

Broadcast 1080i streams are massively inferior to this. The above would generally have a bitrate (quality) around 10-15x higher

Is 4K available throughout the UK now? i thought that this was being rolled out in the future.

You can certainly stream 4K from Amazon & Netflix.

  • If screen is too dark (can be a problem with any LED based screen, just part of the experience), then close curtains to improve your viewing.

Define "transmitted" ... is there any free-to-air (well, broadband) streaming service other than the usual catch-up services? (Iplayer, ITV Player, All 4, UK TV Play).

Remember that even HD is not yet available for every channel.

The "point" is that you are buying a TV capable of showing broadcasts which are currently only available via an extra subscription.

However, this does not mean the new TV is not also perfectly capable of showing broadcasts with lower resolutions.

Point taken but is it not financially better to purchase a tv that shows/plays what is currantly transmitted, this is not a criticism as i still watch tv on a 42 inch plasma that is about 10/12 years old :rotfl::rotfl:
