Exchanging £1000 TV @ Currys

Options
So I bought an LG B9 few days ago because it looked great in store - playing their own 4K content. However once I go home and test it with normal freeview channels (ITV HD, BBC HD etc) the brightness is just not enough. I have spent a full day configuring the picture settings to what experts recommend on forums and still the screen is too "dull" and will simply not get bright enough to enjoy normal TV. Apparently this seems to be a trend with OLED TVs...

So my question, what chance do you think I have to exchange this for a QLED Samsung TV at the same price? Currys return policy states that all items can be returned within 21 days as long as it is unopened (lol) but of course I need to open the thing to test the picture quality...

  • I had a similar experience a few years ago and Currys were quite happy to exchange the TV for another model.

If they’ll let you, get a full refund and buy from one of the retailers with lengthy warranties on TVs.

Had you opened the box and tested the TV?
  • Yes. I wasn’t happy with the picture quality and obvious lag. I used it for no more than an hour, boxed it up and took it back the next day. They allowed me to exchange it for one that was about £50 more.

I take it you still have the box and all the packing it came in.

Apparently this seems to be a trend with OLED TVs...

Yet you want to buy a different brand QLED tv?

If you notice TV's are always at the back of the store where it is a bit darker. Yet our rooms where we watch TV are a lot brighter, so half of the problem is not the TV, but the actual location it is compared to where you view it in store.

I still have the packaging yes.

OLED + QLED are totally different panels.

You chose the TV instore and saying the TV isn’t faulty but picture isn’t to your liking when tried at home, personally if the retailer goes above what there legally required to do and lets you exchange to another TV you should be very happy with that

I don’t like other posters on here recommending you try and get your money back and going else where to buy I think it’s unfair of them to recommend you abuse the retailers good will
Personally if I was a retailer I’d not be happy refunding a non faulty now legally second hand used tv that I’ve to off load at a reduced price knowing there taking the money and buying elsewhere

You make a fair point. I'm not a big fan of Currys myself but the time to look at other retailers was before the purchase, not afterwards.
