There is more to good insurance than just price, though, and Admiral are the Ryanair of insurers when it comes to chiselling extras out of things that used to be taken as standard.

I've been with Admiral multi-car for a few years. Every year the premium goes up, I go round the comparison sites and update the quotes for the two cars, and phone Admiral with the best price, which they beat or get close to. Fine by me.
I have to go through this every year. It would save a lot of time to everyone, if they could just send decent renewal quote in a first place.

Can't agree with comparison of Admiral with RyanAir. Their price is inclusive of things that other companies quote as extra. Aviva has number of options you have to choose, to get to the same level of cover. Aviva initial quote is "naked".

But then they would make less money. And would charge everyone more. Let them gouge the lazy people, I'm happy to check my insurance once a year and save £100-£200.

Genuine question - can you let us know what has been cut out?

    Add to that:
    -house insurance once a year
-gas and electricity every time contract ends, etc.

A lot of time wasted just to look for cheapest product. In case of house insurance, I move between the same set of insurers because they offer new customer discount and then hike policy next year and even after haggling it's more expensive than at competition with new customer discount.

It's not that bad. I reckon I spent around an hour comparing my car renewal with other quotes, ringing to confirm and cancel the auto-renewal from my current insurer. Half that for home insurance and maybe half again for utility switching. So all in all, less than two hours each year. I'd call that productive, not wasted time, especially since collectively the saving was several hundred quid. I saved more than I would have earned at my hourly rate.
