  • It's neither a scam or a con because you can exercise your choice to take out multi-car cover or not.

I had one about 20 years ago that allowed me to include both classic and 'modern' cars. I had 5 or 6 cars on it and it was a huge saving over insuring them individually.

Just renewed one of my 3 policies with the same insurer.

Renewal quote is +£50 vs last year.
Meerkat quote is -£50 vs last year.

Insurer agreed to match the Meerkat quote, but won't apply MCD to comparison site quotes.

So for me, for now, MCD a bit of a waste of time, but I wouldn't call it a "con" or a "scam".

I just wish another insurer would compete with my current provider (next nearest is 25% more every time I check).

I have multicar policy with Admiral and it's always cheaper for me than two individual ones. It's actually cheaper than car A single insurance somewhere else. Second car cost is equal to discount for multicar.
    To give monetary example:
Car A to insure with Admiral £900pa
Car A +B to insure on multicar with Admiral £900pa, because I get discount on two cars and second car policy costs exactly what I get in discount.
A few years ago Admiral gave me 7 years NCD on second car when I added it to policy. Had 9 years NCD on car A at the time. So can't exactly complain.

Car A usually comes up at £1200 to insure somewhere else and policies are worse, when I add all things to meet my needs, it's even more expensive. (full insurance abroad, etc)
  • Admiral multi car was cheaper for me this year, than two separate policies with a number of insurers. Not by much tho’

Sometimes I have a three-car multi policy, sometimes individual policies. This year two of the cars are on the multicar policy, and one is insured separately.

No sign of any scam or con here - just a matter of working the quotes through.

Never been cheaper when I have searched, but for someone somewhere it maybe cheaper and some maybe paying a similar amount or maybe more for the convenience.

I've been with Admiral multi-car for a few years. Every year the premium goes up, I go round the comparison sites and update the quotes for the two cars, and phone Admiral with the best price, which they beat or get close to. Fine by me.
By OP's logic every insurance quote that's not the cheapest one is a scam!

I always compare a few companies for individual quotes 2 cars + home insurance. Admiral won again on price for the 3rd year running, just.
I had to ring them and barter the price down on one of the cars they duly reduced the price (price matched)
I couldn't get anywhere near as low on their home insurance quote though as an individual quote a reason why multi cover is better with them.
It's not a scam or a con, it's just being savvy and going what's on offer at the time that suits you. If you find their price is too high come renewal it's best to talk directly with them don't just compare online and give up.
