Multi-Car Insurance Policy is a SCAM

Multi-Car policies are advertised as being cheaper then independent single car Policies.
However, I have looked at several big providers Avivi/Ademiral/Direct Line and they ALL come up more expensive to insure my 2 cars together.
As an example :
What a con!!!
Why is that?
Anyone else found the same?
A few years ago this was NOT the case, so what has changed?

As an example :
- If insure the 2 cars independently It will cost me about £800 this year.
- However, doing them under one policy with one of the providers above (with the EXACT same details Mileage/Excess/Driving history/No Claims Discount etc. ) varies between £950 and £1,200.

Yes, not really a scam; just that they are not the most competitive for each car but you will still get a discount insuring both with the same provider as opposed to insuring them seperately with the same provider.
But as you say It's generally cheaper to insure seperately with seperate companies.0 -
Misunderstood, yes. Not as useful as you (or I) might like them to be, certainly.
But not a scam.0 -

Scam is a very mis-used word. Stop being so dramatic OP.
In a lot of cases many people will find it cheaper to buy multi-car insurance. Obviously not all. Get a quote, if it's not cheaper then don't buy it. No-one is holding a gun to your head are they? You're not your * could have not of * Debt not dept *0 -
ok, so maybe SCAM was a bit harsh.
Lets call it a CON:jTo be Young AGAIN!!!!...what a wonderfull thought!!!!!:rolleyes:0 -

It's not a con either. Surely anyone shopping around for car insurance will take the best they can find at the cheapest price- are you suggesting that you just go by what the adverts say?
We have used multi car policies for many years, but occasionally we found it cheaper to insure individually even with the same company, so we switch at renewal. The next year we phone round again and choose the best insurance for us which may or may not be multi car.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Only a con if you're stupid enough to only get a get quote for multi car and not for each vehicle to compare.
A couple of years ago I did fall for the advertising and got a quote, but it didn't take long to compare it to individual quotes to see it would be much more expensive in my case.0 -
Well I've just taken out the Aviva multi car and it's worked out cheaper than my single car policy even by upgrading to the Aviva Plus policy from the standard policies.
Also cheaper for me than any other insurer by £1000 -

Interesting.
I've been doing quotes this am and have finally managed to get a quite with Aviva for Multi-Car that is almost the same as buying 2 policies.:jTo be Young AGAIN!!!!...what a wonderfull thought!!!!!:rolleyes:0 -
I never found multi-car worked very well in practice as one or other of my cars always came out very expensive even with multi-car discount compared to the lower quotes from other insurers that didn't mind that car/insurance that I needed (business use, spouse use etc.)0
