My electric has stopped showing and i now have to send readings myself monthly, here's Shell Energys reply/info on the matter
Apparently they have a fix for this now ! they are coming to fit a new meter at the start of Jan
  • Shell Energy fitted my smart meter in October 2019, I reported that my monitor had stopped working on the 13th Feb. 2020, tried everything they suggested still not working, so over a month later still have a faulty monitor, very disappointed with their service.

I really dont think OFGEM or the ombudsman will really take a lot of notice regarding what is really a trivial problem. However, go for it and please let us know how you get on.
Have you started the formal complaint process with your supplier and asked for a deadlock letter from them

I'm no fan of Ofgem, but they won't be interested in your toy not yet working, and rightly so !  They deal with high level policies, not trivia.  You haven't even suffered any financial loss.  You can find out all you need to know just by reading the meters directly, (unless you have a disability that prevents you doing so).
There are much more important issues that need their time, such as helping people top up their prepayment meters because coronavirus means that they can't leave their home to go to the shop, and many won't even have the money to do so if their income has also dried up.  Don't even think of wasting anyone's time, one day your toy will work, just be patient.
  • Today I was the lucky recipient of a Chameleon IHD6. What a piece of straight-to-landfill garbage. It worked for about 5 minutes but now shows no data. Without demolishing my house I can't get it any closer to my meter.

Had a Chameleon smart meter installed today.  Not getting any gas data on the device. No instructions in the box or even a link to find them although there is an on device (basic) tutorial. Found some on Chameleons web site. There they list their various meter types; mine according to what is printed on the bottom is an IHD7-CAD-PPMID that is not featured on their web site. If mine is an updated model, you would expect Chameleon to have it listed.  PP in the name, I think means Pre Payment. I am on a credit contract. Hopefully PP only means Pre Payment compatible. Distinctly unimpressed at the moment. My fixed contract runs out at the end of the month and according to a report I read yesterday, my current supplier - Together - is likely to be the next to go bust. I was planning to switch anyway as I am having a storage battery fitted and Octopus had the best deal for buying cheap overnight energy to store in a battery when I last checked.

Anyone else got a Chameleon IHD7-CAD-PPMID and know anything about them?
  • The original posting was back in 2019 and it said the fix was known about then. I had a brand new smart meter installed in Nov 2021 along with a brand new IHD7 !  Yes it shows IHD7 on the bottom. Guess what ... The tariff values were wrong and it won't pair CAD to account. Since then after real problems trying to communicate with British Gas (Zero stars for service) at some time between January and March 2023 the Electricity tariff values were corrected (that's on the meter - the IHD just shows what's on the meter). The gas rate and standing charge are still what they were in 2021. And the IHD still won't pair CAD to account. The data shows IHD7–CAD–PPMID 1.6 CAD 1.6. So the problem still hasn't been sorted after 3 years. Indicentally, my experience of dealing with British Gas is that they will do anything to make it appear that they are solving problems without actually doing it. They routinely close complaints as soon as they are raised - because "the issue cannot be resolved by the person recording the compliant". I want to change supplier, but all switches are "paused"
