I'm puzzled, please tell - how hard is it to take heavy duty bags with you when you do a 'big' shop? I usually pick at least one hessian bag out of the three or four I have, plus I have a selection of Tesco, Morrisons, and Sainsburys h/d bags.

If I take a walk down to my local One-Stop fold a plastic bag into a pocket just in case I need it.

Why is that so difficult - we've had years to get the hang of it?
I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard
  • Hah, jokes on them!
I for one wont be buying their overpriced bags!
  • Self service till - take bags. "Forget" to press the number button to say how many you've used.

    = Free Bags

Haven't paid for one since they came in!

Lots of good rubbish bags do I have
It's funny but the same is said for expensive cuts of meat, boxes of wine, washing powder....if you dont scan it then it's free!

The problem with 10p bags is, for people who put their convenience above financial sense, this is not a significant anount to pay. Then, as they clearly don't re-use them for shopping, all the ones they have at home will probably be used in the same way that the old thiner bags were used (for rubbish etc) except that this time, the bags are thicker, use even more plastic per bag and will take even longer to bio-degrade (if at all!)

So yes, stick them up to 50p until people get the message, you rarely go shopping without your wallet, so eventually going without taking a bag will seem equally ridiculous.

Regarding the need for general disposable bags for household use, all I can say is thank goodness for the relentless stream of charity bags which people keep insisting on stuffing through our door!

As we always have a nested stack of 4-5 large canvas re-usable bags in the boot of the car for shopping we don't have any other source of disposable bags for dry litter, shredded paper, and other non-recyclable stuff.

When our charity bag stash runs out we will have to buy, but as my stockpile is now 50+ high and we use one every 2-3 weeks, I don't think I will need to do that for a while!

50p is a good idea, if it says on the bag when it breaks, we will replace it for free

I simply do not understand how people say this time of year that they "weren't planning to go shopping".

Is there anyone live in Wales here? Do people still not bring bags even though its around 8 years since the bag charge?

that's why I scan all bags for customers that want one :D;) to stop this happening

Those friends that work in supermarkets with self scans actually either scan the bags for customers or when customer needs approving for alcohol etc and not pressed the number of bags used, selects the number bought. They always check and adjust accordingly

As only shop staff can void off carrier bags!!
  • I'm from Wales. The vast majority of people bring their own bags, although sometimes people forget of course. I keep around 10 bags for life in the boot of my car so rarely need to buy a bag from any shop! :)

The only time I get caught out is if I pop down to the corner to post a letter, and realise I could do with a couple of things from the convenience shop down there. I do have carrier bags in my coat pockets, but in summer I don't have a coat!
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Nope..... just don't sell plastic bags at checkout. Supermarkets are profiteering under the banner of the environment.

That's exactly why they all got rid of the 5p bags. They knew they can keep 100% of the profits from the 10p+ bags instead of having to donate it to charity.
