Thank peeps,
I was amazed that the two sport shops I went into could'nt help me, they're so keen to sell the merchandise and have no interest in giving away free advice.
I think I'm brave enough to try the washing machine now :beer:0 -
My son has a pair of these and as you can imagine they get pretty smelly & mucky. I stick um in the sink first and give the canvas a good scrub with stardrops (or similar) before putting them into the washer on there own, you don't need to add any detergent because of the stardrops. Let them dry slowly overnight to avoid shrinkage.Rebel No 220

Hi retsbed,
There's an older thread on cleaning trainers so I've merged your thread with it to keep all the suggestions together.

Much obliged!! :beer:0 -
I went on holiday wearing a pair of trainers. The weather consisted primarily of rain and I trudged through puddles soaking my trainers, my socks, my feet. Anyway, my trainers now smell... . Does anyone have any tips for cleaning them, for making them smell as clean as my beautifully shiny feet...?
Thanks!0 -
When all else fails i usually put them in the washing machine, in a net or pillowcase, with bio powder/liquid. Important to air dry outside or near a radiator or they will smell again. i have saved many trainers like this.0

My daughter puts her family's trainers in the washing machine. She's had only one disaster, when a pair of hiking shoes shrank - she was very glad she'd bought them in the Sale! She's had no bother with ordinary trainers though, but she washes them at 30 deg to be on the safe side.
P.S. - She even puts them through the tumble dryer!0 -
When we went on holiday this year I had exactly the same. I put mine, DH's, DS's and DD's trainers in the washing machine and then left them outside when I could or in the airing cupboard when it rained. Left them for a couple of days and they were all fine.:)Do more of what makes you happy:)0

I put trainers in the washer, but have had one pair shrink - they don't usually. So my advice is try washing them without heat, but be aware that they might shrink.0

If you cant put them in the washing machine, scrub the outside of them gently with bicarb of soda, sprinkle liberaly inside with it also, brushing it into the lining with a toothbrush and leave for a day or two, then hoover out and they should smell much better. Jif cream cleaner on the outside too can help greatly if the bicab doesnt lift the dirt,
Good luckEvery days a School day!0
