Asking vendor if we can store stuff at house before exchange

We are supposed to be exchanging on a property today to complete tomorrow.
Just found out we can't complete and it may be next week

Removal men are book and we have to move out tomorrow.
Our vendor has moved out and the house is empty. Would it be absurd to ask if we can store our stuff there rather than put it in storage to then move it in at later date.

We Have somewhere to stay

Don't do this if you haven't exchanged.... Vendor could pull out and keep all your stuff.
  • You can ask, but their solicitor should tell them not to do it.

    What if exchange doesn’t happen?

Why have you booked removals before exchanging? Mad.

What if exchange is delayed or never happens? Moving your stuff in is bonkers.

It's recommended that you insure your new property on exchange, not sure I'd want to store my property in anywhere that wasn't insured, presuming that you haven't taken out insurance. Our buyer asked to store his boat on exchange, as he hadn't insurance we refused as our insurance wouldn't cover his property.

Booked removals as we are going ahead with our sale regardless of what happened.

Sale as gone through as expected.
Storage is our first option but just thought I'd ask the question. It's a resounding no which is reassuring that we are doing the right thing by going into storage.

    Thanks

There was a thread on here that involved a property sale, a dead dog and a pond.(Also a supermarket carrier bag as well if I recall correctly - it was awhile ago.)

    It was hilarious.

Get your stuff into storage. It is the safest option.

I suppose this is one of the downfalls of exchanging and completing close together. We have been lucky and both of our house purchases which have exchanged and completed on the same day have gone through smoothly.

In fact thinking about it we exchanged the afternoon before completing this time round to speed things up on completion day. But still close together.

After 15 house moves (most company moves) I can honestly say that we've never exchanged and completed in one or two days. The usual time has been one to two weeks which has then given us time to arrange the move without involving storage.
