What happens if I can't get the gas reading on the last day I move but only 5 days before?

Calculate average daily usage and estimate Monday's reading from that.
Not sure about turning the gas off as someone suggested. I guess flats are warmer but my house is 13.5 degrees right now (Im tight/poor so dont use heating). More than a jumper is needed! :eek:0 -

Wait you are complaining about 13 degrees? That is warm I thought...
I only have my heating on to 16 c!
Unless you meant faranheit :eek:0 -
I must feel the cold then, I start to feel uncomfortable under 15 degrees. Presumably you do too if you have your heating set at 16? Not complaining, just saying I would still be cold if all I did was throw a jumper on this time of year as suggested (I need 2 and some extra socks and a blanket if I want to sit down for a bit).0

Hang on you're the OP. If 13 degrees inside is warm then just turn the heating off- problem solved.0

Where are you guys, Irkutsk? Sod that, 19 degrees C is not quite warm enough for this soft southerner. I need it to be 20 when I first get up, 19.5 once I am dressed, with a sweatshirt over a thick top... and jeans and thick socks, obvs.
To each, their own temperature.0 -
Im in the South West. Dont get me wrong I dont enjoy being cold. That was my point- I would have the heating on if it was affordable (we are having to do our first winter here with old storage heaters which are completely pointless turning on and mad expensive). I dont count 13/14 degrees as being warm! Thats why I replied saying I dont recommend the OP turns their gas off but it sounds like they dont mind the cold so maybe they could just turn it off for 5 days. I wouldnt in their position.0

Oh crumbs, Yalpsmol, I am so sorry for you. I loathe the cold with a passion, having lived well into my 20s with no double glazing and until my teens without central heating.
I remember ice on the inside of the windows, even in the loo; not being allowed to turn the heated towel rail on because "he" would not approve and having to bathe in a room with condensation on the windows before you turned the hot tap on.
Now, I refuse to be cold and realise I am lucky to have that option.
I hope very much you can get your heating situation resolved very soon and wish you all the best, I really do.0 -
You've trusted the LL manager up to now with your readings and never done one yourself?
I would knock on some doors and borrow a key from my neighbour right now to check.
Then either submit the Thursday reading as your final if you're feeling cheeky, or borrow the key on Monday.0 -
What? Are you saying you decided to rent the place without speaking to the neigbours first?
What a crazy idea.
Let me tell you a longish tale
We rented a house in Devon a few years ago, nice quiet market town. While I was in the garden the next door neighbour spoke to me. She seemed OK and told us the previous tenants were 5 sharers who worked until 10.00 am (yes, they all worked in the same place, the agent was a friend:D) and when they got home they slammed all the doors and played music loudly. She was over the moon when we said we were a nice quiet recently retired couple who didn’t play music and only had a quiet cat, no dogs. Perfect tenants in fact :rotfl:
So we moved in. It was fine for a couple of years then things went downhill fast. It turns out the husband was a very nasty piece of work and was well known in the area. They were noisy, he was rude and suddenly took a massive dislike to us. We have no idea why. The only time he spoke to us he was offensive and one conversation was as follows “once you’re 6 months are up why don’t you b***** off”. Nice.
We stayed a bit longer because the LL was nice and we were allowed to do anything we wanted in the house, and the rent was very reasonable. Almost final straw came when they decided to extend as their family had increased. A 2 storey extension plus work on the front. It was noisy and was still going on after nearly a year later. The final final straw was when they started playing loud music late (I pitied their 4 kids). OH knocked on the door and asked very politely if they could turn the music down a little. All hell broke loose, he pushed OH into street and threatened him physically. OH is big chap and very little scares him. I could hear from inside the house and neighbours came out to have a look.
We decided to move ASAP and found somewhere suitable quickly. LL came round and said we didn’t need to sort out the garden or even clean the house as he had work planned. Gold star him. We hadn’t paid a deposit anyway.
I have loads of these fascinating tales about renting :rotfl:0 -
Absolutely, Murphybear. Planet Slithery must be an ideal world, as is Planet Smodlet; it's just a pity I can no longer afford to live there...0
