Tesla Model 3 Is UK’s Best Selling Auto *Again* In May, EV Market Share Hits 16%
May 2020 saw UK plugin electric vehicle market share hit 16%, with the cumulative 2020 share now standing at 7.2%, almost triple 2019’s result.
The Tesla Model 3 again takes the prize for best selling auto (of any kind) overall, maintaining the result from April.
UK auto market volume was down 89% year on year, but auto dealers are now reopening for business, promising better results going forwards.
Plug-ins had 34% market share in April so perhaps a more accurate report would have been:
Plug in Market share halves in May and BEVs fall from 31.8% to just 12%... and Tesla M3 share falls from 15% to 4%. Is this the end of the road for Tesla?
As I said, auto sales are a depressed market, and not much can be concluded from recent 'blips', but it's nice to see that cleaner transport is holding out as well as can be hoped, and for those interested in BEVs and a news thread, this is hopefully all good/encouraging news.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

What would that tell us about the auto industry? Nothing except that comparative statistics when a significant part of the industry is shutdown are meaningless.
It is good news for Tesla and once again it has shown they are ahead of the game with their virtual delivery protocol. (If Kia had a similar system in place the e-Niro would probably have featured in the top ten but frustrated owners are waiting helplessly knowing their vehicles are in the UK).
However, we do need to have a more objective approach if this thread is going to be anything other than a Tesla fanboy site and to have any credibility as a port of call for discussion of EVs outside the half dozen or so regular contributors already here.Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)0 -

A few statistics from Norway. Now what has happened to Tesla? Just a blip I imagine.

Hiya. Sorry I think you missed the point completely (probably deliberately). Your post suggested the May numbers where bad when compared to April, both for PEV's and Tesla,Plug in Market share halves in May and BEVs fall from 31.8% to just 12%... and Tesla M3 share falls from 15% to 4%. Is this the end of the road for Tesla? You put it in bold, and even suggested this might be very bad news for Tesla. So I was simply pointing out that in reality, the opposite was true both for PEV's and Tesla which had both seen a month on month growth. I think you failed to apply any objectivity to your 'unusual' response to my news posting.
Not sure what is wrong with being an 'EV fanboy', I'm more than happy to wear that badge, even a T-shirt. Clearly this thread is for those with an interest in BEV's to share some news, not to defend that interest against those opposed, as those opposed can simply ignore the thread.
If you are (yet again (is it a June thing)) just going to disrupt threads by trying to spin negatives against anything I might post, then wouldn't it be better for you, and fairer for all, if you just popped me on ignore, please?
PS. Sorry all the good news about Tesla upsets you, but they do make a lot of news, a lot of good news.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

I would be interested in views on this. Is a petrol station the ideal location for an EV charger? I would have thought the chances of one being ICE’d while someone pops in for shopping might be quite high (rather than bung up a petrol pump). On the other hand they would be easy to find, i.e. obvious location to spot for someone just driving past (who doesn’t do phone apps).

Have to say that BEV'ing bin lorries has always been top of the list for me. They do short journeys, most driving will be low gear (low mpg) pull offs, and brake wear must be enormous, and think of the noise reduction, not only the driving noise, but the engine revving for power take-off when the hydraulics are in use, and the guys walking along with the noise and diesel fumes all day. Fingers crossed this is as good and obvious a solution as it appears to be (to me).
