Good results for BEV's and PEV's in August. At 26.5%, BEV sales alone were close to the 28% ZEV mandate, without the added contribution from PHEV's which were at 11.8%. For 2025 so far, PEV's are at 32.5%.

I know that HEV's are just a transitional tool, and PHEV's too I suppose, but adding PEV's and HEV's for August comes to 49.7%, which is fun to see. [For the year HEV's + PEV's are at 46.3%]

Interesting that Tesla continue to buck the European trend and are maintaining market share in the UK.

Possibly a controversial opinion (hopefully less so on this thread) but I'd suggest that a vehicle you can't plug on isn't really an EV at all. It's just an ICE vehicle with an emission reduction unit.

I'd regard it as just a slightly more efficient ICE. You pour petrol in, it burns it to go, I don't see how adding an electrical step in between changes the fundamentals of it.

I see "hybrid" as a marketing term. It would be better to class them as ICEs and judge them on their merits of giving better fuel economy rather than seeing "hybrid" as giving some special value.

I ofter wonder how soon people buying PHEVs, assuming they actually plug in, regret not going full EV.  Trying to fit a journey into limited battery capacity and paying to service a redundant ICE.

I ponder the same, but flipping it, I can see a positive benefit from PHEV's, and that's because I not so secretively think of them as 'Trojan BEV's'.

For some people, BEV's may not yet work, but a PHEV will give people a positive experience (hopefully!) of driving in electric only mode. But more importantly, I hope that folk who wrongly (but genuinely) think that a BEV won't work for them, will change their mind after experiencing a PHEV, and move on to a BEV.

So that PHEV may teach, and build confidence, allowing for a partial then full move away from an ICE. But .... crucially, that PHEV will now go on to someone else SH, and another and another, helping to educate more and more people about BEV's. So the new PHEV sale may displace one new BEV sale, but ultimately help to transition many from ICE to BEV. [As viewed through my green tinted glasses.  :D ]

So, an evolutionary dead end, but perhaps a useful stepping stone for some, for now?

I kinda feel the same about cheap(er) lower range SH BEV's replacing the second car (or so) in a household. That's extremely educational, certainly worked for us.
Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.

Absolutely right. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have gone full BEV if I hadn't had a PHEV first.  And that one did pretty well with my mix of long and short drives (including a trip to France) averaging 85mpg for the petrol use.

Was there a "wish I'd bought a BEV" moment or just natural progression?

I know the nissan serial hybrids get a bad press from the true EV believers but I think again they are a great advert for Bev's as the user becomes used to the characteristics of an electric motor in terms of torque, smoothness, reduced noise and vibration etc

A bit like selling class A drugs outside a police station with an invisibility suit on.  Fortunately the fuel economy is said to be poor (according to Tesla Bjorn).
Edit: Interesting that anyone worried about battery life would consider one of those e-powers. They must thrash a small battery with far more potential for degredation than a BEV.
