    OFFICIAL:  EV's will be cheaper.
    https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cg5z4nlned0o

Surprised this is going to come as a standalone announcement and not part of the Budget in the Autumn.  Still, having let the cat out of the bag, it needs to be announced now to avoid a slump while people wait for the cheaper EV whatever that will mean.

No point speculating as it sounds as though we will know by the end of the week.

    Very interesting GC.

I do think the BBC are being a little disingenuous with this small bit:
Around a fifth of new cars sold during the first half of the year were electric, according to the latest figures, external from the UK motor trade association the SMMT.

However, sales remain well below the mandated targets manufacturers have been set, ahead of a ban on selling new petrol and diesel cars in 2030.
My bold. The target for this year is 28% for zero emission vehicles, and YTD BEV sales are 21.6% (24.8% in June), but the target also allows for a partial credit* from PHEV's which YTD are at 10.3% (11.2% in June). So I think they are stretching things a tad with 'well below'.

*But the PHEV credit proportion does drop over the years too.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

The last thing this Government can do at the moment is fritter away taxpayers money. Has to be an objective use that has long term benefits and part of a much larger nationwide infrastructure upgrade plan. Policy announcements far too often are simply used to deflect the media coverage.

Maybe they'll unfreeze the fuel duty escalator and tax FF road vehicles to compensate? A d sotzort of road pricing? The FT published a piece last year arguing in favour of this.

Under the pavement charging is fine if the council will mark bays to stop other people parking in front of your house. You'd normally get "you don't own the road, I can park where I like" if you ask somebody to move their car.

Daughter often has to park way up her street or even round the corner on her road of older terraced houses.

"Dave Takes it on" on YouTube showed lamppost charging in Liverpool. Between the two there are options coming....if councils can avoid the temptation to milk the lamppost rental rates (if that's a thing).  Overall it must be significantly cheaper than fossil fuel to tempt people out of their wariness of change.

I see the 63 million includes transiting NHS fleets, which of course will mean that they will need more ambulances to cater for the ones that are out of service due to charging…

    Just put a few 7kw chargers outside A&E :)

Seriously, I saw somewhere that the power demands of the on board equipment make EV ambulances a challenge at the moment.
