50-100kw...Some nice 300kw fastneds just installed near us - of course with home charging we are unlikely to use them and also it is not so easy to find a car that can take full advantage of that rate....
    I think....

And better news: if you aggregate VW group EV sales (VW, Audi, Skoda, Cupra amd Porche) they are outselling Tesla now.

In Europe I think that is true but worldwide I think they did 321k in H1, considerably less than Tesla.

Vid from Transport Evolved that looks at the electrification of giant mining trucks. The idea here is to use the existing diesel-electric trucks, and change them to BEV by replacing the diesel side, with batteries. The company is developing large battery packs, and in this example* the pack size design for the truck is 185kWh, and eight of these would be installed to provide the energy for one of these massive beasties.

*Terex MT4400 Rock Truck, approx 160tn empty and 400tn loaded.

Warning, my sort of thing, but many (most?) will probably find it a bit boring, but I thought the potential of converting existing vehicles, which are already electrically powered, was a great idea. Also, they mention the use of packs for other heavy plant, such as excavators, dozers etc..

EIGHT Of THESE Make This Mining Truck All-Electric!

Earlier this year while we were in the UK, we visited WAE Technology and learned about some of the ways it is using its experiences in Formula E to aid in the electrification of all kinds of transportation.

The largest vehicle it has worked to electrify thus far? All-electric mining trucks, owned and operated by its parent company Fortescue in Australia. And today, we're learning just a little about the massive battery packs that make a zero emission mining truck possible.

Thanks for posting that Mart. You're right, it was boring, but intriguing all the same and great that you've got an E Formula team working with something considerably slower, but equally, if not more challenging all the same!
Good luck to 'em I say. :)

News is breaking about the launch of the new Tesla Model 3. There's been loads of speculation about 'Project Highland', but now many of the stats are out. Doesn't look like the rumour of a 10% increase in the battery for the standard range car has happened (yet?), but due to the many tweeks and improvements, range appears to be around 4% more. So WLTP range for the standard range is now 319 miles, and for the LR it's 391 miles. Using the rough rule of 'knock off 12%' to get the more realistic US EPA figure, then that's about 280 and 344 miles respectively.

BTW steering wheel stalks have been removed .... hmmm!

Prices seem to be almost unchanged, but pre-order for the UK apparently isn't yet available, but other parts of Europe may get deliveries in Q4 this year.

Tesla Model 3 Project Highland revealed: What you need to know

The Tesla Model 3 Project Highland has been revealed, and it looks pretty darn compelling. With the Model 3 Highland being launched, it would not be surprising if orders of the all-electric sedan see a notable rise in the coming months.

A look at the new Model 3 shows that Tesla made it a point to make the Project Highland update evident in both the vehicle’s interior and exterior. Tesla reportedly changed 50% of the parts of the vehicle to make it more stylish and aerodynamic. These changes resulted in a car that looks more aggressive and mature compared to its predecessor.

Whereas this suggests WLTP is up about 11-12%
Tesla Model 3 Highland officially unveiled with new design and unexpected features (electrek.co)

Aer Tesla able to game WLTP the same way they do EPA or is WLTP a fairer comparison between makes (even if it is optimistic for everyone)?

Cleantechnica are also suggesting the higher range figure:
The improved range on a full charge comes out to 554 km (346 miles) or 678 km (423 miles), depending on whether you get the standard single-motor option or the long-range dual-motor option.

And another 'vote' for the higher range, from InsideEV's. Have to say if the uplift is actually 10%+ without a battery size increase, then that's rather impressive.

New Tesla Model 3 Debuts: Chiseled Design, 421-Mile Estimated Range

The estimated WLTP range for the updated RWD Model 3 with 18-inch wheels is 344 miles (554 kilometers), while the LR variant is good for 421 miles (678 km). That’s roughly an 11 to 12 percent increase from the current models’ WLTP range of 305 and 374 miles, respectively. Note that the EPA figures will vary significantly for the US-spec electric sedan.

If there isn't a way of quickly operating the wipers then I won't be getting another Tesla.

Hiya. Review by Bobby on Fully Charged, showed it's a press of the button on the RHS of the wheel. Indicators are on the LHS. He took one for a test drive as part of the press invite (he owns a TM3), he wasn't sure about the button indicators, think I'd be the same. Hopefully it's a quick adjustment?
