Yes, although doesn't say if that means all hybrids including plug-ins.

To me, it obviously means if it's ICE at all it gets banned.

    Agreed.

I suspect that measure will be accompanied by punitive Road Fund Licence(RFL) rates for ICE vehicles to make them uneconomic for most people.

Presumably they will also scrap the RFL exemption for 40year old cars.

After months of government inaction on climate change this step appears but a small token effort on their part. 2035 is still five years beyond the ten that scientists suggest we have remaining in order to make a positive impact upon it. If the sale of petrol and diesel engined vehicles were banned this year then many would still be on the roads in twenty years time!

Very likely higher taxes on petrol & diesel too.

Thats the only way to do it properly, have a big one off charge up front on _all_ vehicles due to their manufacture and then tax according to usage. (which also includes tax on electricity use)

The next step some cities are looking at is banning all vehicles completely regardless of how they are powered.

It was discussed on Newsnight last night and one of the presenters confirmed the ban does indeed include plug-ins hybrids.

Some mixed messages here but it looks like the PICG will end on 31March to be replaced by other incentives

Sajid Javid has performed an about turn over plans to scrap Government grants for electric cars after the motor industry warned it would have a “devastating” impact on demand.

A taxpayer-funded contribution of up to £3,500 towards the cost of new electric cars was due to come to an end next month, but the Treasury will continue paying some subsidies as part of a package of measures expected to be announced in the budget.

A Whitehall source said: “People won’t just be dumped at the end of March. There will be a package of measures which will include the Government playing its part.

“We are not going to end up in a cliff-edge situation where we suddenly stop subsidising electric cars. We have always said we would phase out the subsidies gradually, but there are other ways we can help people to go electric.”

interesting figures for uk in january, with pev's reaching 6pc.
i'm not suggesting this will happen, but it might be possible if suuply expands for the uk to hit 10pc, then perhaps 20pc next year and so. that's probably the most extreme/optimistic scenario, but at least i can now ponder it as 'possible'.
as bev costs fall i doubt phev sales will hold up, but then we're back to the supply limitation problem.

UK Fossil Vehicle Sales Tumble By 18% As EVs Triple To 6% Market Share

UK combustion vehicle sales fell 18% year on year in January as plug-in electric vehicles took almost 6% of the market, up from 2.2% a year ago. Diesel sales were hit particularly hard, selling 36% less volume than January 2019. Will the UK government’s recent target of phasing out combustion vehicles by 2035 be overtaken by consumer preferences?

The UK EV mix in January was well balanced between full electrics (2.7%) and plug-in hybrids (3.2%). The growth in EV market share occurred despite last year’s top selling EV, the Tesla Model 3, not yet having been shipped to the UK for 2020 sales.
