    Interesting development.

So, I don't tend to waste my time on the silly anti-EV nonsense, it'll all run out of steam eventually, just like all the 'stuff' about PV, wind, storage etc.. But a week or two back, I was chatting with a friend and mentioned that I'd seen something odd. Reading through the many RE / EV news sites, which aren't UK based, I'd noticed quite a few comments being posted talking about how bad the UK press had suddenly gotten this year, spreading negativity and FUD about EV's.

Obviously this seemed mainly focused on The Telegraph and Daily Mail, but also mention of the unedited/non fact-checked article from Rowan Atkinson in the Guardian.

I hadn't realised just how bad it had gotten, but yesterday watched a Fully Charged vid in conjunction with Quentin Wilson, where they decided that the level of negativity, and the, dare I say silliness, of much of it, was getting out of hand. So they feel it's now important to pushback, and fact check, in case legislation is softened in response to the nonsense being pushed.

[And not just the UK. In the US, Trump is running with a strong anti-EV campaign (like his previous anti-wind, anti-water saving, etc etc campaigns). But one of his challengers, Ron De-Santis is also pushing anti-EV promises, so clearly it's a vote winner with some people.]

Good vid, worth a watch/listen. Not sure any of the silly claims will be a surprise/news to folk on here, but still good to know.

Who's TRYING To KILL The ELECTRIC CAR? And What Can You Do About It?

Wise to the lies? Bored of BS? Fed-up of FUD? Misinformation about Electric Vehicles and Clean Energy is at an all-time high. Vested interests have almost limitless funds with which to pollute public discourse, and it's easy to feel powerless to prevent that. With your help that can change.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Maybe not the biggest news, but nice to see more internal production of BEV motorbikes and scooters in India. Huge demand for 2 and 3 wheeler options in Asia, and I assume, big environmental benefits v's ICE motorbikes.

One Electric Launches 3 EV Models For B2B Market In India & 10 Countries In Asia, Europe, & Africa

One Electric recently announced the launch of two electric motorcycles and one electric scooter model which are completely designed, developed, and made in India, with design patents pending. The company claims to be the first to develop and launch multiple indigenous electric two-wheel models in India. The focus for the new electric motorcycles will be for bike taxis, last-mile deliveries, and affordable city commuter segments.

The thing about the YouTube business model is that to prosper you need to keep subscribers returning to your channel and watching your videos. In our modern polarised society one of the best ways to do that is to provide your viewing public with the news/stories they want to hear and rubbish the alternative perspective. Your sycophantic viewers will fall over themselves to praise your insight, integrity and objectivity and clamour for more of the same which you will happily provide and the money will keep rolling in.

Or you can just post a video of your cat.

Perhaps the most appropriate use of EVs anywhere. I can’t see how anyone would argue against it - except my postman who having reached the village, stops and starts his van every 50 yards or so. He just doesn’t see the point of EVs even though his wife works for a Ford dealership that sells them.

Used EV market nears tipping point, remarketing experts say

Speaking at the event last week, Suzuki GB director of automobile Dale Wyatt said it feels that the car market is close to a point where EVs will just become an everyday part.

He added: “It looks as though used ICE and EV cars will start to reach some kind of price parity over the next year and I expect that trend to equally apply to new cars as we edge towards 2024. Price parity will be a key moment as there is still going to be customer resistance to EVs and there will need to be incentives to overcome that.”

As well as incentives, Wyatt said getting to widespread acceptance would require a concerted effort on the part of the remarketing sector.

Peter Smyth, director at Swansway Motor Group, gave a dealer perspective on current issues. He backed the idea of incentives but said that simply getting better at selling EVs would be crucial.

Maybe this article will bring a bit of cheer.

Decarbonization Is Happening Faster Than You May Think

Fossil fuel lobbyists may have assured their clients that they have the politicians under control, so don’t worry. But politicians can neither control the technologists nor entrepreneurs that see opportunities ahead. Even worse for legacy interests, the economics of the new technologies guarantee that they will stay in the business, competing even if making the original investment was a big mistake. Decarbonization may come sooner than expected. Before 2050, that is.

Who's TRYING To KILL The ELECTRIC CAR? And What Can You Do About It?

Thanks for posting this Martyn. This is Brilliant. And prompted a couple of thoughts:

    1. My diesel Audi needed a service shortly before I changed it. The garage came to pick it up and saw my charger on the wall (in expectation of the new car) and came out with now familiar vitriol to that referenced in this video. I really couldn't understand it but I do now. (He was also damning about the fact the car used AdBlue (which I think is a real benefit to diesel vehicles)

    2. The Rowan Atkinson story they refer to  (I do wonder who wrote it and who paid him to put it in his name) shows the relatively gentle way that misinformation (sorry 'lies') can be spread.  It reminded me (without getting into the political debate) of how similar nonsense arguments were delivered to appear quite plausibly in other situations, most noticeably Brexit and also PR).   For completeness I thought it useful to post a link to the rebuttal of the Rowan Atkinson story which is interesting to both set the record straight but also to illustrate the subtle ways in which the truth is manipulated to mislead.

I think some people are getting a bit carried away with the notion that Big Oil or other vested interests are somehow responsible for the negative stories appearing in UK newspapers. These statements are made without providing any evidence to support them. I can’t believe anyone would seriously think that Rowan Atkinson was paid by some anti EV organisation to publish his article. He is a well known petrolhead and probably just wasn’t very happy with his EV experience.

I am sure they would but that doesn’t mean they are sponsoring the negative articles about EVs that are appearing in UK newspapers. I don’t  know the exact statistics but only a small minority of the population own EVs and the newspaper industry may be more interested in pleasing the majority who don’t own EVs. Possibly they believe more people will enjoy reading bad news about EVs than good news. I can imagine the queues reported at Tesla chargers one Christmas just confirmed for many Daily Mail readers what they already “knew”. I doubt that the average Daily Mail or Telegraph reader would consider Fully Charged particularly even handed in their reporting either.
