Electric Vehicle Sales Hit Record Levels In 2022 As Automakers Raked In Profits

“Last year, every fourth vehicle we sold in China was a plug-in, and this year it will be every third auto,” Ralf Brandstätter, head of Volkswagen’s business in China, told the WSJ. “We haven’t reached the tipping point yet, but we’re expecting to get there between 2025 and 2030.”

Northern Lincolnshire. 7.8 kWp system, (4.2 kw west facing panels , 3.6 kw east facing), Solis inverters, Solar IBoost water heater, Mitsubishi SRK35ZS-S and SRK20ZS-S Wall Mounted Inverter Heat Pumps, ex Nissan Leaf owner)

Wyoming proposes to stop the sale of new electric vehicles by 2035

Seems a bit late in the day to worry about preserving jobs that would otherwise be lost to technological advances.
    Why this move now?
Who was there to protect the jobs of farriers, stable-hands and the like?

Couple of "haven't we heard that before" news stories.

So, another BEV hearse, this time from a Ford Mustang:

Dying for an EV? Ford Mustang Mach-E converted into an electric hearse and limousine

Coleman Milne, the UK’s leading hearse and limousine manufacturer, recently unveiled a new “ceremonial” range based on Ford’s Mustang Mach-E platform, including a limousine and hearse.

And, another BEV heavy hauling mine truck, with batteries from the UK:

This 240t electric mining haul truck can charge in 30 minutes

A 240-tonne mining haul truck is about to be fitted with a 1.4 megawatt-hour (MWh) prototype battery system that global green energy company Fortescue has developed with equipment maker Liebherr.

UK-based engineering company WAE Technologies, which was acquired by Fortescue in March 2022, completed and delivered the battery system to Fortescue’s workshop in Perth, Australia. The battery will be assembled and installed in the mining haul truck before it’s transported to the Pilbara in Western Australia for onsite testing this year.

Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

For general PV advice please see the PV FAQ thread on the Green & Ethical Board.
  • While it has previously been broadcast how well Tesla score in these tests I was surprised how EV's appear to have stolen a march on legacy auto manufactureres by landing the top spot in four of the five categories with only the Lexus getting a mention.
Perhaps even more surprising is that two new models from China take wins in their respective classes leaving legacy auto's out in the cold with a huge challenge ahead if they are not to be overtaken by new upstarts as happened to the UK motorcycle industry in the sixties and car industry a decade later.

Euro NCAP announces best in class results in a record year

The winners are the following: Hyundai IONIQ 6 wins the best-in-class award in the Large Family Car category; the ORA Funky Cat in the Small Family Car Category; Tesla Model S in the Executive Car category; Tesla Model Y in the Small Off-Roader category and finally WEY Coffee 01 in the Large Off-Roader category1.
2022 was notable for the number of new Chinese brands coming to Europe and achieving great results. Following some less-than-successful attempts to break into the European market in the past, several manufacturers are showing that Chinese brands can now compete on safety with well-established European brands. In the Small Family Car category, the ORA Funky Cat is exceptionally well equipped and, being at the top of its class, outperformed several familiar brands.

East coast, lat 51.97. 8.26kw SSE, 23° pitch + 0.59kw WSW vertical. Nissan Leaf plus Zappi charger and 2 x ASHP's. Givenergy 8.2 & 9.5 kWh batts, 2 x 3 kW ac inverters. Indra V2H . CoCharger Host, Interest in Ripple Energy & Abundance.

EVs have much more freedom on crumple zones than ICEs. They also have very low centers of gravity.

It's easier to make a safe EV than a safe ICE.

Also, EVs are still at the premium end, so they get all the active saftey features as standard.

Aren't us EV owners jolly lucky then. :)

If EV technology, prices and availability move in the right direction then this strategy will fail. Surely residents will find a way to buy and register from out of state.  And by then (as you suggest) the oil industry should have fallen away substantially by then.
    Install 28th Nov 15, 3.3kW, (11x300LG), SolarEdge, SW. W Yorks.
    Install 2: Sept 19, 600W SSE

Yeah, there are a few states (less than before) that have 'fun' rules or restrictions. Not quite the same, but some states require sales to be via dealerships, as there are loads of laws to protect them (mostly from the manufacturers the sell for). In those cases, you purchase out of state, then register the BEV when you get home. Silly.

Have to say it has looked like a scam to chase grants from the off :(

UK only really has Nissan who plan to build Vs here and they have a battery factory - Toyota we all know about and I guess if JLR eventually go EV they will need batteries.
    I think....
