What Car? Real Range: which electric car can go farthest in the real world?

This article is a few months old but interesting nevertheless.

    https://www.whatcar.com/news/what-car-real-range-which-electric-car-can-go-farthest-in-the-real-world/n18159
Their 146 miles for the Zoe R110 is as a wee bit pesimistic. I get 160 from mine easily at 'normal' driving speeds and people are getting nearer 200 by taking easy.
And if they had used Octopus Go, the cost per mile would be nearer 1p for most of those cars.

I would say the same for the Leaf. I have only ever done one true full range test and managed 170miles taking it really easy and have never done a whole run as low as 2.8 mpk. I have 2 trip meters and left one alone for more than 1000 miles (it only goes up to 999) and it showed 3.9 mpk with a mix of me and the wife driving what I might describe as normally including a lot of dual carriageway and motorway at 60ish.

I suspect however most of us on here subconsciously drive economically without really trying just as we use power and heat economically. It becomes ingrained after a while and we forget what we were like before EVs and domestic pv changed our consciousness.

I used to regularly drive much faster on motorways (as it seemed did everyone else) when I had a diesel and wasn’t as conscious of the impact of drag. I cannot conceive of driving the Leaf at 80mph but in a diesel I tended to drive at the “unofficial motorway speed limit “. Do that in a Leaf and you’ll probably be lucky to get 2mpk.

Perhaps the figures are representative for someone new to EVs who never really considers driving economically and a fair indication of what Joe public might achieve. If the tests are all done the same then it has value as a comparison. What the article didn’t make clear, though, is whether all the tests were in the same weather conditions.

Ah, just noticed the date of the article is February so maybe the tests were done in colder weather ??

The Nissan Leaf is the most reliable electric vehicle

I think we knew that anyway.

Here they come (driving down the street, the funniest cars, that you'll ever meet).
So as promised the Chinese built TM3's are on their way. This fits in with the shortage of supply from the US as TM3 lines switch to TMY production, and the extra shift added to Giga Shanghai raising the annualised production rate to 250k (from 150k) by the end of the year.
Interesting comment (below the article) from someone whose ordered a car, as the price has dropped €2k. A possible explanation given by another poster is that this is due to the lower import tax of 4.5% from China v's the 10% from the US. I've pondered the same about the German built TMY, will the removal of the 10% tax (for the EU) mean it doesn't cost much more than the current US imported TM3's, and when they start building TM3's, will these be 10% cheaper (before VAT) than current US TM3's?

7,000 China-Made Tesla Model 3s Headed To Europe

Reporting out of China today indicate that Tesla is shipping 7,000 Model 3s from its Shanghai gigafactory to Europe. They will reportedly arrive in November at a port in Belgium.

These Model 3s will be delivered to customers in Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, Switzerland, Sweden, and possibly elsewhere.

I thought this was interesting, indeed surprising.

I am attaching the link below as the source of this table and for no other reason although some may find the content of interest.

Water BEV's and Audi cuts, strange breakfast selection.
So, Bangkok looks to clean up its air and water by electrifying the ferries:

Thailand Gets Fleet Of Electric Ferries To Help Clean Up Bangkok

With an electric powertrain developed by the electric marine experts at Danfoss Editron, some 27 zero-emission passenger ferries will soon replace a hodgepodge of aging diesels in Bangkok’s Chao Phraya River as part of an exploratory bid to improve air quality and clean up the water supply in the Thai capitol.

With nearly 23 million visitors arriving during normal, non-COVID years, Thailand’s capitol city of Bangkok is often cited as the most visited city in the world. Those tourists get around in a number of ways, of course, but as often as not they’re checking out the city’s storied skyline from one of the dozens of the city’s ferries. Those boats are also a key part of the city’s logistics, moving goods, food, and people around the bustling metropolis. The problem is, however, those old ferries belch out literally tons of carbon emissions and leak untold gallons of oil and fuel into the country’s air and water. As such, the city’s air quality is regularly recorded as “unhealthy.”
Each of the twenty-seven catamaran-style ferries will be capable of carrying up to 200 passengers, and will be pushed along by a pair of EM-PMI375-T800 series Danfoss electric motors. Those motors are each good for a continuous power output of between 174-192kW, and are, per Danfoss, “based on synchronous reluctance assisted permanent magnet technology.”
The electric motors are also liquid-cooled, designed to work in harsh operating environments and offer smaller dimensions, lighter weight and higher efficiencies than current diesel motors. All of which should mean the new ferries are cheaper to operate in addition to being cleaner and greener.

Some rumours about the Audi E-tron, which seem odd given its popularity. Perhaps it's simply a reflection of the economy under C19, or nowt but hot air.

Audi May Cut Production Of E-Tron In 2021 — Rumor

Audi Brussels plans to cut e-tron production in 2021, according to L’Echo. The Brussels plant is where the e-tron quattro electric SUV is manufactured. Although, a few days ago, Audi’s CEO, Volkner Duesmann, mentioned that there was stable production and the possibility of increasing it by few cars per hour. Though, he may have been referring to the remainder of 2020.

L’Echo reported that fears are mounting for 2021, and there is a discussion around a production program that is smaller than initially planned for the next year. Grégory Dascotte, permanent MWB-FGTB at Audi Brussels, confirmed this. The production of the Audi e-tron SUVs will be reduced by 4,100 to 5,700 cars in the first quarter.

The economics of EV production in Europe are extremely obscure in the EU at the moment, by one calc an ev sold when a company is exceeding the fleet emissions target is worth an extra 30k EUR on top of the sale price.  Thus it may make sense for the VW group to use the batteries in 3 ID3s or 4 eUps than two eTrons.
    I think....

New Blacked-Out,Tesla Model 3 Gets EPA Range/Efficiency Ratings

The Long Range AWD version should be able to achieve 353 miles (568 km) of range - up 31 miles (50 km) or 9.6%.

    That would do me nicely.
