Didnt the Chinese govt say they would cover shorts as part of the bail out for the opening on Monday? Would partially explain the surge in price.


A lot of it is down to trading algos and scouring the web for news and fake news from the tesleratti, which of course is the reason why there are so many online rampers in every form of online media (and detractors). When an algo reacts to repeated 'big tesla news' or 'tesla rumor' or some such then that in turn influences the dow due to weighting etc then that has usually small ramifications.
The SEC (pointless as they are) are having a look at the last couple of days.
FOMO and ramping on social media will wipe people out, I logged on to my broker account yesterday and was seeing tesla this and that and the logo popping up on every screen. Havent seen stuff like that since the dot com boom. Sirius should be a lesson to everyone but dont worry, its different this time.



I know they are dramatisations but would recommend anyone to watch 'The Big Short' and 'Margin Call'. I watch them periodically to remind myself not to get greedy or indeed if you are going to panic, panic first ;-)
Like holding shares, shorting only really matters when you come to settle up. In the immortal words of Kenny Rogers

Is it just me or does anyone else prefer the old forum format? I really miss being able to click on ‘latest post’ to open it up. Far too many steps to get there. What’s all this points business?

So now a couple of threads take me straight to the latest posts but others don’t. Strange!

The good news, Rogelj said, was that measures to prevent leaks, reduce flaring and switch to renewables would be more effective than expected. “What this study shows is that we can have a bigger impact on methane in the atmosphere than earlier thought. This allows us to set climate policy priorities right.”

Just doing a bit more reading about this issue I see virtually the same story was published in 2016.

Researchers who pulled together the biggest database yet of worldwide methane emissions found that, after natural sources were discounted, emissions from gas, oil and coal production were 20-60% greater than existing estimates.

Methane makes up just 16% of global greenhouse gases and is shorter-lived than the CO2 which accounts for three quarters, but has a much more powerful warming effect.

If this is indeed correct it would raise doubts about the accuracy of earlier climate models.

Experts said the study meant scientists should reconsider their climate models. “Emissions scenarios currently used for climate prediction need to be reassessed taking into account revised values for anthropogenic methane emissions,” wrote Dr Grant Allen of the University of Manchester in a commentary in Nature.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas, with more than 80 times the climate warming impact of carbon dioxide over a 20-year span. If it makes up 16% of greenhouse gases as suggested and has 80 times the climate warming impact of CO2 then the discovery that FF emissions of methane are actually 40 or 60% higher than originally thought has huge implications for the strategies needed to tackle global warming. 

If this has been known about since 2016 why have we not heard more about it?
