Why don't Asda accept AMEX cashback card?

And, let us just take things back to the opening post where @JustAnotherSaver clearly stated in his first sentence that it was his card that was not being accepted.
If you are able to find a reason why it is happening, it would still be useful to let us all know. All I can think is that it may be linked to the new(ish) requirements to go online for contactless transactions, and perhaps that functionality has caused problems within Amex processing at ASDA, so they've disabled it whilst they find a solution.0 -
So yesterday I went into ASDA, and my Amex wouldn't work with contactless.
It didn't prompt for the PIN like cards do sometimes, it just said "Payment not accepted/Payment type not accepted" or something like that
When I put my card in the reader, it worked. Contactless worked before and after in other stores0 -

That could indeed support the idea that the requirement for all contactless transactions to now go online for authorisation is problematic within ASDA's Amex processing.0 -
The pub I work in accepts Amex on one terminal only as the company that own the terminals currently have a software issue (an update problem) so only one of the terminals took the most recent update. The result is denial of Amex on the terminals awaiting updates. Just my 2 cents.0

Tried again in Asda, chip & PIN, this time it worked.
I can only assume she was either mistaken last time round and entered her PIN wrong or there was perhaps a glitch. I've had errors when entering my PIN correctly before today, although quite rare. Anyway at least we know it works there.
Or perhaps it was because i loaned my own card out and big brother was watching. Who knows.0
