Havn't you called Amex yet to find out what is going on? What are you waiting for? Christmas?
    Asks question.

    Doesn't wait for answer.

    Assumes answer.

    Tries to be clever.

  • You’re still avoiding the point about loaning the card out to someone else.

Why are you doing this when it’s against the T’s and C’s?

More to the point, why do you care? If someone wants to contravene some arbitrary T&Cs, that's their decision and problem, not yours.

    I don’t give two ****s about it.

But as people keep blurting out; “this is MSE and people come here for advise”.

And OP is still yet to respond to ANYONES querying of this activity, let alone mine.
  • Ok so let me get this straight ....

You're saying that because i loaned my mother my card (shoot me!) and because my mother has had absolutely no problems whatsoever in using my card & continuing to use my card then...

...that may be the reason as to why my wife can use her card in absolutely any other place whatsoever...just not Asda.

    Really..?? :rotfl:
You might just have noticed I used a question mark at the appropriate juncture - and the use of the word may was another clue.

Not sure why you posed the question in the first place, as you appear to know the answer(s) in advance.

Why not have your mother as an additional cardholder (if eligible) - then you won't breach the Ts&Cs that you have such a cavalier attitude towards ?

On the subject of a male lending a card to a female and that causing a potential problem at payment time (which was mentioned in one post) I suspect the card no longer indicates the sex of the holder. Possibly the only time there might be a practical issue with someone else using your card is if the PIN pad on the POS device malfunctions and a signature is requested. Even then the likelihood of the shop assistant checking said signature matches with that on the card is not that high (I suspect).

And, let us just take things back to the opening post where @JustAnotherSaver clearly stated in his first sentence that it was his card that was not being accepted. Ok, since then it's been rammed home that this is not true, and it is only his wife's card that isn't being accepted. Has OP contacted Amex about this? Well, if so, he's keeping the answer to himself, which means this thread is useless as a point of reference for anyone else with a similar issue.

The T&Cs attached to a credit agreement and card usage are possibly a little more 'definitive' than 'arbitrary' and anyone posting information that shows they are contravening T&Cs would be a fool to think that this would not attract comment, or theorising that this might have a bearing on things.

So, if we should not care about things like that because they are not 'our' problem, what exactly should we care about? Should our replies to the OP have been 'We dunno why you've got this problem and, quite frankly, we don't care. Ask Amex or ASDA and stop bothering us - we've got far bigger things to preach about'.

I'm another that's found no ASDA will accept my Amex via contactless, but no problems via chip+pin. It also won't work as contactless via Google Pay.
  • Not sure why your card wont work with asda but my amex wont work at local boots, i sussed it down to them using a older card machine or that its a offline system where the bin numbers are not up to date.

Works everywhere else although lately the issue seems to be with the new mastercard 2 number ranges not being accepted that n9 and curve are issuing.

Valid point. I haven't actually looked at that to be honest.

Another valid point. On the rare occasion i've had to sign, they give it about a 0.0000001 second glance and ok it anyway.

Hmm, i did? In which part? You've put it in bold so you're wanting to stress that i've said that it is MY card and NOT my wifes card that is acting up. So let me just check the OP.....

My wife has used her card on a few occasions, or at least tried to. She's tried contactless, she's tried chip & pin and she's tried Google Pay - it's rejected each on more than one day.

Now if you take a look you'll see that i haven't sneakily edited the post to now read my wife instead of me, so where exactly are you seeing where i said it's MY card?
Is it because goody two-shoes waffling on about me loaning my card to my mother has confused you?

This is why i reply as i do. People are real quick to point fingers at me here ... but then don't read the post. They're in too much of a rush to get to finger pointing that they get too carried away and get things wrong.

It became useless the moment people started going off on a tangent unfortunately.

Answering the question and staying on topic to the obvious point that the thread was created for.
    Would be nice.

    Reply.

Why has contacting Amex over the issue you/wife/mother are having in Asda. Got anything to do with posters going off tangent?

You want a answer then ask the card provider. As they will be best placed to help.
Yes, I know why you asked here. To see if it was a regular issue. But still does not stop you from asking Amex about it..
