..if the other party and me settle the claim... then does it still necessary for police to do the investigation when no one got injured...vehicles moved... i was not told of any prosecution coming...

The police have a statement from you, and (presumably) from the other party. Comparing those is probably all the investigation that's needed. Colliding with the vehicle in front suggests careless driving: the fact that no-one was injured is irrelevant.
Since an accident had occurred, there was no need to warn you of any possible prosecution [Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988, section 2(1)].

Unlikely they took any statements at the scene. They probably have a reply after caution from both drivers as there is no point taking a witness statement from both.

I drove into the back of someone and wrote my car off - completely my fault. Letter dropped through the post box from the police some weeks later to tell me that no further action would be taken. I heard nothing more from them after signing the statement at the scene of the accident. The police won't tell at the scene you about a prosecution coming because it's not their decision to make.
You just have to wait, but from what you've said it's unlikely to go any further from a prosecution point of view.
All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

See post #13: "police took my statement and told me that they have done exactly the same with other drive"

It's not their decision, but they routinely warn (for different offences) that "you will be reported for possible prosecution", or words to that effect.

I've seen it but I would suggest the OP is mistaken as two witness statements is pointless. Why take a statement for no further action.

Sorry but you are wrong there, careless driving charge is a police decision.
