  • Hey Babs
Really enjoying reading about you getting to grips with your garden, this time next year, you will hopefully be sitting on a hill of stored root veggies! Looking forward to seeing how you get on with making the most of your harvests! :D

  • Thank you SH and Ren.

Blight has been bad this year apparently. Loads of people in my gardening group are affected. Cut the affected part off and turn the remainder into chutney. You can pick the ones that are ok and ripen them next to bananas. All mine are still green, but I'm carefully checked every day and armed with scissors in case I need to get mine off quick.

My garden is my sanctuary, an escape from the stresses of the world and where ideas become real 🤗

The coal shed is going to be our veg and tool storage. We think the flat would be too warm and realistically don't have the space.

It really is a great flat and I cannot believe we have a private garden 🤭

There will be a lot of careful, rotational growing going on next year, no space will be unused. The ground, pots, tubs and bags will be used to maximise available space.
There's a washing line post and I'm going to securely hang things from it.
I'm constantly seeking weird and wonderful ways to design things to make even more space eg pipes with holes cut out for planting strawberries / tumbling tomato which would take 5 inches of ground space, but allows 6ft of growing height.

I'm saving all the seeds from magazines, reading as much as I can and everything I learn when going along will be put into action when an allotment place is allocated in the future 🤗

--I've done the washing up / cleaned the kitchen today.
--Found the lost tape measure and measured the unit the fridge is getting moved to.
--Need to get the cables sorted for the office area.
--Swept the lounge. I've always wanted wood flooring in a lounge for ease of maintenance.
    --Had a coffee.

Now I'm resting for a bit and reading my gardening magazines while I wait for TomBo to come home. Planning a potter around the garden later 😊

Thanks I'll try the tip of putting them next to the bananas. I rescued some green ones earlier. Binned a few of the plants.

I've spent the afternoon reading, with my feet up.

Had lamb and lentils in a tomato and herb sauce, with bread.

  • Hey Babs
That sounds like a great plan of action, :) I especially like the shed/root veg store, is it one of those old concrete ones?

Hi Ren it's a proper brick coal shed and part of the building / staircase, with high / sloping ceiling. Another quirky part to my home as again it's a rare thing to have, normally they are a standalone structure and been taken down years ago.

PS I don't update the other diary, I decided to stay here as I'm comfy 😁

Oh, you are so lucky Babs, it sounds almost like a proper root cellar. Is there such a thing as cellar envy? Sigh...  B) I like quirky homes too...

Oops, I thought you were multi-tasking, wouldn't put it past you to be able to do both! Heh!

Are you sure you are not Charlie Dimmock Babs? You are putting me to shame. I haven't done a thing for 3 weeks since i returned to work.Your planning sounds great though. Well done.

  • I don't have enough spare time to maintain two diaries, especially when I put everything into this one 😁

I'm having to rethink my garden plans as I've got a good amount of growing space. I went out to water and stood there, looking at it all, how it's taking shape and with careful planning and planting we will have a steady stream of homegrown food.

Cleaned the kitchen yesterday, did the bathroom today. TomBo will do everything else this week.

Had pizza tonight as the chip shop make them, was really good and a lot cheaper and nicer than D0m1n0's.

Moved a bit of money to savings.
