Well we thought we knew it apart from one letter. But been through all the possibilities with no luck. There must be another letter out unfortunately.

What annoys me is how the Police can't be bothered. They must be able to search the database, I am sure if somebody was hurt it would be a different story.

No ones been harmed and the insurance will pay. What would you want, pay more in taxes or have your current taxes being best used?

I bet your parents accident hasn't even been seen by a police officer and up to now it's only been dealt with by support staff.
  • Yes but my parents now have to pay out an excess for no fault of there own.

I am sure it would not take much effort to search the database.

About 30 seconds but then would the police staff know that? You've also then got the problem of who would go and look at all the local possible vehicles the search would produce.
  • Could you find out if neighbours have CCTV that might show the reg number
Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

If you're two letters out then there are over 500 possible combinations. Three letters out and it's well over 10,000. I'd rather my taxes weren't spent paying the police to search through that lot.

Police numbers have been cut. Police support staff numbers have been cut.

Since nobody was injured, it's really just accidental (careless) property damage. On the grand scale of things, that's the lowest priority for the police.

These days, something will only happen if somebody is caught in the act, or if the crime is sufficiently serious to warrant police time to investigate it.

    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

A few letters from the plate + car make and model + colour = extremely narrow list of the possible culprits. I would prefer the police to spend these 3 minutes to solve the case and (probably) prevent such behavior in the future than to pay a few hundred pounds more in insurance premium next year tbh.

Then add to the mix that the characters which are "known" don't appear to be correct...

Mmm. Taking the number of officers almost back up to the 2010 numbers.
