How on earth did you get into uni?

Hello, I have been at UNI since September. Should now be the time my friends and I start looking for accommodation for next year?

I think the answer is "yes".

You obviously have no idea about university. It's a perfectly valid question.

Op - speak to student services and yes, by November my daughter was looking (hard isn't it as you have to decide early who you want to live with).

Sugarfree - You're obviously ignorant about university accommodation.

OP , I take it you mean your accommodation from Sept next year?

Yes , now is the time to look

Suppose you are looking for accommodation starting from next summer.

    a) If you are looking for private student halls, then the application usually starts from early next year.

    b) If you are looking for renting from private landlords, then probably do it 1-2 months before your moving in date. Landlords advertising their properties now are probably looking for tenants to move in at the beginning of next year.
  • Definately look now. A lot of landlords sign people up in November for the following student year. Ensure you view the property too as photos are not always reflective.

The better accommodation will go quickly so it can't hurt to start looking now. Your students union should have advice and recommendations on the better landlords and agencies in your area. Some Uni's also now have schemes where they lease properties from landlords and you rent from the Uni. You may pay a little more but the advantage is you wouldn't need a deposit.

They take the rent money from the student and pay the private accommodation provider X amount as guaranteed rent. The student still pays a deposit.

    B) Private landlords (for students) will have their properties filled by early next year. It’s a terrible idea to wait until 2 months before moving in date, that’s only for professions who have graduated and aren’t stuck to the student areas
  • OP you are on the wrong board. Contact your student union for the beat advice.

No you shouldn’t be looking at signing a tenancy with people you meet two months ago but you will most likely have to.
  • Thanks for the advice guys (:
  • My apologies.
I was in a foul mood and your dodgy grammar was the last straw.
I do actually wish you all the best with your property search and hope you find somewhere safe and comfortable and warm for next year.
    Sorry again.

Sadly it is becoming the norm to look and book accommodation for next year at this time of year. I say sadly because chances are you ave only really got to know people who you are currently living with and people on your course. Students feel the panic of securing the better properties now and rush to form a group for next year.
The downside is that by the time you move in, you will have formed better friendships with other people and possibly dread to live with the people you have chosen.
In some towns there is a shortage of decent accommodation, but in others this needless panic does have unfortunate consequences.
