The better accommodation will go quickly so it can't hurt to start looking now. Your students union should have advice and recommendations on the better landlords and agencies in your area. Some Uni's also now have schemes where they lease properties from landlords and you rent from the Uni. You may pay a little more but the advantage is you wouldn't need a deposit.0

That's really helpful to OP who is doing this for the first time. If it made you feel good though. How on earth did you get into uni?

OP now is deffo the time, by the time you come back in Jan the best housing will have gone. Speak to the university/SU who will usually have lists of decent landlords. decide if there are people you know you want to share with as easier to look together. Read any contract carefully, as you will likely be signing up to be liable for the entire house rent if a mate doesn't pay, and as such your guarantor will also be liableAn answer isn't spam just because you don't like it......0 -

Do not rush into renting property.
1. Make sure the students your looking at renting with you could cope with living in a house with.
2. Check contract for no hidden extras.
3. Remember you will have to pay summer rent usually half rent when uni not on usually July-September so factor this into your costs.
4. You will have to put a deposit down.
5. Search the landlord your looking to rent with not all of them are nice.
6. Join your university Facebook pages or the overheard group for your university they have lots of tips.
7. Remember to take lots of photos when you move in.
8. Also don’t stress you have exams in January and May so don’t put more pressure on yourself looking for accommodation before the Xmas break.
9. Also think about what size house you want, might sound fun 9 living together, but not when your trying to study or use the kitchen.
10. Good luck.0 -
Your guarantor has to be some one who is willing to pay your rent if you default. They will have to provide bank statements and id and their relationship to you. They will the have to have the form signed by a person who can confirm their identity not another family member. All seems quite scary if you feel uneasy about anything talk to your university they have people especially for this. Good luckthetravelman123 wrote: »Bump.
