Just be upfront and ask for it, I always give £100 quid when I attend weddings as it's normally about 50 quid per head at weddings so I pay for myself as I just enjoy weddings.
I don't think it's being cheeky to say I'd rather have money for a honeymoon than loads of random gifts I would never use.
I'm getting married in June, if they want to give me nothing that's fine I just want my friends and family there. if they want to give money I'm grateful.0 -
It isn't cheeky. T'is the norm these days
If people care, they will want to give you something you both enjoy, not a toaster.
I do love a thread like this though, these are the bread and butter of MSE shoot-outsWith love, POSR0 -
We said nothing unless we were asked, then it was, 'thank you but we'd really just like you to be there' and if they pressed, I think we said we'd really appreciate gift cards to a couple of specific stores because we were looking to upgrade XYZ at home.
We mostly received cash, a few gift cards and some boxed gifts. There are people who are going to give you what they want to give you anyway, and people who will take on board what you say. I think most people recognise if you say 'no gifts' it is implying that you'd prefer money over something tangible.0 -
Good luck OP
I didn't even know there was such a site, but what a great idea these days
Times have changed so much, these are a great ideaThe opposite of what you know...is also true0 -

No-one would ever use a rip-off like that.
Trailfinders apply no charge and give you £100 towards your honeymoon if you use them to book it. The disadvantage is that you have to book with Trailfinders, and you forfeit £75 if you get cold feet and the donations have to be returned. But Trailfinders are great, and well worth considering even without the £100 off.I don't just want to give paypal details but also conscious that some companies could go bust and take the money collected with them?
In theory the money should be segregated from the company's own. This is certainly the case with Trailfinders. (I'm not on commission, it's just that I've only had one honeymoon so they're the only one I'm familiar with.)
In practice if the company you use does a Farepak, "in theory" isn't going to protect you unless they are part of some sort of compensation scheme. (The FSCS for example is unlikely to apply, unless they say otherwise.) It is a risk you have to take unless you want to source the gifts yourself.0
