I am with Scottish Power for my gas & electricity, and I was wondering whether if anyone has an energy supplier that allows them to pay their bill however much via a payment card?0

All suppliers allow this. But you will pay in the order of 10% extra for the privilege.0 -
Not sure if this has been covered before, but when using the comparison sites, it is best to input your consumption figures, NOT the amount you are paying. The problem is that if you tell the site how much you are paying, it uses what it thinks is the correct current price per unit to come up with an annual consumption figure, and then uses this to work out how much other suppliers would charge. If the figures it has for your current supplier are wrong, everything else will go out of kilter!!
I emailed moneysupermarket.com a few days ago to tell them that the costs per unit they are using to work out my consumtion (I am with Scottish Power) are not correct. moneysupermarket.com think I pay 3.76p and 2.786p per unit for gas - I actually pay 4.545p and 3.617p. Not surprising that when I look at expected costs from other suppliers, they are all more expensive!!0 -
It is ridiculous... centrica announced 35% price hike last year and now it will cut this by 10%... so effectively it still is 25% more than what was paid same time last year...
But on the same day (feb 19) British Gas will introduce a prompt payment scheme that offers up to £15 for customers who pay their bills on a quarterly basis. Hmmm, now that looks worthwhile or does it really?...0 -
100 + 35 = 135
135 - 10% = 135 - 13.5 = 121.5
121.5 - 25% = 121.5 - 30.4 = 91.1

atlantic dont charge. they have a much fairer system.
Pay promptly whether it be by direct debit or manual payment then next bill has a small discount. So if you pay fast manually you pay the same as if paying by direct debit.0 -

I am with Atalantic and once a year they return into my bank account one months payment for my gas and electric. So when I go to a comparison site to check like for like it is impossible to input this calculation into my usage/payments. On the other hand the calculation for the other sites include any paybacks the suppliers might offer and therefore make the other energy companies seem cheaper. I suppose for the comparison sites to get commission it is in their interest to prove you can save money by changing. Be warned!!0 -
hiya,
was wondering if im stupid, as I tried several comparison sites today and they all tell me if i switch from my fixed till 2010 tarriff (which apparenty is more expensive according to edf who im with) I will pay at least over £200 a year more then now??????????0 -
I have been feeling a bit peeved that I was swept up in the 'capping' frenzy last year.I had a call from my Mum,and a few other friends who had capped, asking if I had capped and to do it quick or I wouldn't be able to.
I rang EDF and capped my gas and electric. When my next bill came in I became more aware of exactly how much they were now charging.
I saw on the news this week that the gas prices were considered being reduced by some major suppliers as early as last summer.
What cheeses me off is that the suppliers still encouraged us to cap so late in the year, saying that the prices may rise further still....
I rang EDF to ask how much longer I am capped until, and therefore am in a year 'contract' for. October 2009 I am free of it.
I then asked how I could get out of that contract.
It will £50 to opt out. Either £30 for gas,£20 for electric,or the other way round, can't remember....
I feel shafted. It isn't worth paying to get out is it...
Am I alone in thinking EDF have acted in an underhand way?
Apologies if this has already been covered.0 -

No. You decided to cap your rates. If they continued to go up you would have been laughing, but because they are going down you want out. Like other financial products with a fixed rate, eg mortgages you have to take the gamble. Some you win, some you loose.Thank you for reading this message.0
