Don't know whether the prices have changed, but British Gas are quoting slightly higher figures for CE6 now:
Gas
6.860p per kWh
3.485p per kWh above 2680 kWh p.a [670 kWh per qtr]
Electricity
19.46p per kWh
9.24p per kWh above 500 kWh p.a [125 kWh per qtr]
Seems the tariff details on the BG paperwork were without VAT, the pesky !!!!!!s!?!
Here are my current tariff details -
Gas single rate - pence per kilowatt hour (kWh) Direct Debit
Tier 1
Unit Price - 6.483
(Inc VAT) - 6.807
Tier 2
Unit Price - 3.269
(Inc VAT) - 3.432
Electricity single rate - pence per kilowatt hour (kWh) Direct Debit
Tier 1
Unit Price - 18.784
(Inc VAT) - 19.723
Tier 2
Unit Price - 8.665
(Inc VAT) - 9.0980 -
Nothing happened to me. I tried to contact them a few times but they just refused to accept that I went through this site. You don't get the £30 unless you do.
In the end they just stopped replying and I gave up.
I won't use moneysupermarket again for anything.0 -

Similarly I took your advice on opening an account with Kaupthing Edge, and it all went pear-shaped and I can't yet get my money back!
I think I might do the opposite of what you say for a while - it can't get any worse!
All down to the credit crunch and current slump in oil prices! No one expected oil to fall back quite so much, so everyone anticipated additional rises in energy prices. Now the oil price has dropped again, it wipes out the need for such steep energy price rises in the near future, but it could change at any time & if you have a capped price, you will be safe. It's like having a fixed rate mortgage; if interest rates drop, you end up paying more, but at least you can budget for exact payments in the future.
I went for one of the capped electricity plans too & now think I'd be better off switching again - comparison says I can save £200 a year by moving again & if I compare the tariffs, they are less for the exact same energy. Even with the £35 cancellation fee & a 10% price rise, I'll be better off..........
The way things are, it's a complete gamble - who knows whether oil prices will rise again, I mean the oil companies are only making "satisfactory" profits of £6billion at the moment & may need the extra money!!!!! If oil goes up again, the electricity costs will too. Do you stick with your cap, or take the chance that the rises won't happen? It's no different to going to the bookies!!
Now there are only 5 main energy companies, the idea that we have choice is a complete joke! The companies should be re-nationalised to get the best deal for the residents of the UK, rather than profits for shareholders!
Oh and like you, I put my savings in Icesave following Martins advice & am now £2K overdrawn because I can't get hold of MY money!!! But it was the best deal at the time & to be honest, I blame the government & the greedy irresponsible bankers & oil barons for all these problems!
If anyone is thinking about it, my own Cashback Shopper site offers cash back for switching your supplier - I'll be using it myself for my next switch of course0 -
Has anyone else had problems with Simply Switch? I applied to switch through this site (so as to get the £15 amazon voucher) on 12 October, but have heard nothing since. I emailed them on 27 October. But no reply. I wonder, if like hollyp and moneysupermarket, they just ignore you unless you go direct to them? Or am I just too impatient? How long would you wait?0

In the latest email I see Martin is a saying a npower package is the best deal for the majority of people, npower are well known to be the most expensive so I am curious if martin is comparing to all suppliers or just the major ones like british gas. The npower package he suggested is nearly double the price of what I pay now, and still the 2 comparison sites I tested today have my current tariff wrong.0

I've also been caught out by Moneysupermarket's terms & conditions, are you aware that you can only claim cashback once.
I had previously used them to swap suppliers and when it was time to change again used them again, I received the switch confirmation e-mail explaining about the timescales for recieving the cashback etc and then forgot about it.
Time to change again and used their site to compare prices, this reminded me about the outstanding cashback and I e-mailed them to find that once you have used them once you don't get any further cashback payments.
Whilst the Ts&Cs state "Payments are restricted to one per household" I didn't appreciate this was a once in a lifetime offer!!!

OH MY GOD!!!
We switched to Equi Power for our Gas and Electricity! We've calculated our average annual bill based on what we paid last year to this year...
We have saved a MASSIVE ammount of £427!!!!! How fantastic is that!! And the best thing about them is that they are a NOT FOR PROFIT organisation - so no evil FAT CATS, doesn't matter what method of payment you use - you STILL PAY THE SAME!!!!
Thanks Martin!! :AThat's going to pay for our holiday next year, and it's encouraged to shop around to see how else we can cut down on our bill!!!
