I've just had a letter from British Gas regarding my switch from CE5 to CE6 and the letter states my new tariffs are as follows -
Gas Tier 1 (up to 670 kWh) = 6.483 pence
Gas Tier 2 (above 670 kWh) = 3.269 pence
Electricity Tier 1 (up to 125 kWh) = 18.784 pence
Electricity Tier 2 (above 125 kWh) = 8.665 pence
which is lower that I'd expected, which is a pleasant surprise!!

I'm losing faith here Martin! Or am I just the unluckiest guy in the forum? I have just completed a capped switch, and now you are saying otherwise! Similarly I took your advice on opening an account with Kaupthing Edge, and it all went pear-shaped and I can't yet get my money back!
I think I might do the opposite of what you say for a while - it can't get any worse!0 -
I've just had a letter from Scottish Power warning me my "can't rise"deal from last autumn in coming to an end at the end of this month.
They want to switch me to another (expensive?) fixed price deal.
This inertia selling is probably good for them and bad for me.
Hey ho, here we go again.
It is amazing how quickly 12 months comes round again.
I'll let you know how how I get on. Let us hope it won't be a shambles like my attempt to switch to National Power, who considered me unsuitable for reading my own meter!
21oct08 Update: Checked it out with Energyhelpline. Here in "Eastern England" EDF seems to be cheapest for (say) 10000 Kw Hrs per year [Electricity only and probably having to depend on night storage, pending a new heating system next year.]. For a fixed price EDF & Scottish Power are even Stephens BUT that is over 100 GBP extra per year. I think a bird in the hand is worth 2 in next January's bush, given the recession and the political fuss. [The government has only just told me how deprived I am on a single fuel and missing out on the dual fuel annual rebate]
Watch this space.
John.
Thinks: EDF is 80% nuclear plus a fair bit of hydro. So done my bit for my kids not being flooded BUT its a shame about the great.........................................great grandchildren having to guard the radioactive toxic waste dumps and worry about growing two heads?0 -
atlantic have just applied the price increase from spring 6 months delayed as they usually do
I expect their next change to be downwards as oil continues to fall.0 -
I used Moneysupermarket.com to switch and they refuse to pay up.
I have discovered 3 more people who have not been paid.
The reason they gave me was that I did not go THROUGH moneysavingexpert.com but I'm sure I did, (It's 4 months ago so I'm not sure) but I think they just play on that.
In the past I've used energyline and they pay up no problem0 -

I went through the money saving expert website and from it's recommendation switched my energy supplier using moneysupermarket.com.
Now their telling me I didn't go through the money saving expert website and don't qualify for the £30 cash back!
Firstly that's the only reason I used them and secondly the text which says "Plus by specifically clicking to the comparison sites using the special links below" on this page http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/uti...as-electricity is so small! Talk about read the small print, what a con this is!
Has anybody else had this problem?
YES! and it really is a con. Use energyline next time.
I think Martin should remove moneysupermarket from his site if he knows they are ripping off his members or at least put a warning on it0 -
Interesting programme on the Radio "File on 4" about the UK Electricity and Gas supply.
In my words, not theirs, it seems we have so many clapped out old power stations, especially the atomic ones, out of action for breakdowns and maintenance that we are ONE power station away from the lights going out in November.
On the gas side, we have the ability to store ONE week of gas supply. Other European countries can store months of supply. This means we cannot buy gas at cheap summer prices. We face being screwed for price increases, especially the minute there is a gas or oil supply problem in the world.
It would seem that while we were squandering N. Sea oil and gas it never occurred to the government that we would be in trouble when it started running out. The companies don't care, in fact they make bigger profits by putting up the prices, than they would by building new facilities in the UK. As they are nearly all foreign companies now "milking" the UK is a profitable business.
Check you supply of candles and listen to the programme again on Sunday @ 17:00.
