In the context of energy supply, I am not sure what 'not for profit' actually means?

    Have you tried Google?
It means the same, no matter what the company is supplying :)

Yes, I have. That said, I struggle to see how an energy supplier owned by a Council, such as Bristol Energy, can be seen as a force for good when it has a loan from local taxpayers of £27M and made a loss in 2017 of £8.4M. Both RHE and Bristol Energy energy quotes sit well down my comparison list.

  • I was looking at all the cashback offers not long ago, there's a myriad.

What I don't get is (I'm included in this myself) when trying to be savvy we go to these big providers and look for the best deals possible and end up going with the best cashback.

I ended up coming across a completely different comparison site, no cashback in sight, and to be totally honest, I had never head of em.

Working out roughly over a year how much I'd have paid (minus cashback) with the best big name deal, I'd have still been paying £150+ on top of my deal now, which doesn't sound like much, but in this case I didn't even have the ballache of sorting the cashback.

Do you think that maybe sometimes, trying to be cash savvy can lead us to make things even more complicated for ourselves?

I know I'm not the only one

I don't think there is any cash-back paid from business energy comparison sites such as the one you linked to.

Factoring in cash-back can make things a bit more complicated but that's the cost of saving the last few quid. In my book, if the cash-back makes a difference to the choice of tariff then the comparison must have been a pretty close call anyway.

My general approach is to chase down the cheapest tariff which meets my criteria and then to switch direct with the supplier - so no cash-back. That way I know who is responsible for any switching problems - no if, buts or maybes.

The smaller, more competitive suppliers tend to up the tariff cost (by more than the cash-back) if you switch via a third party who will also cream off their cut.

I've just had a call apparantly from Love Energy Savings.com Ltd on 0204 867528 (did a who called me search) and they're trying to sell new gas, electric and water contracts and saying they're doing in on behalf of Martin Lewis and MoneySavingExpert.com. I thought I'd put it here as I didn't think that Martin or the website "approved" any one firm.

Yes. Make MSE aware. A common scam but still needs nailing.

  • Hi

I'm currently on an E.ON tariff that's coming to an end. MSE energy club says that I am still eligible for the 25 pounds cashback if I choose the E.on plan that is available now.

Can anyone confirm hat I will get the 25 switch bonus for moving to a new E.On tariff via MSE energy club.

I thought this would not be considered a switch and therefore not receive the 25 bonus.
