I've finally received my "goodwill gesture" cheque from Scottish Power, as they were instructed to by the Ombudsman service. They did so with no good grace, complying with the Ombudsman's instructions to apologise in the most equivocal way and making no effort to explain their calamitous series of wildly erroneous bills and failure to realise, even when prompted, that I hadn't been a customer for nearly a year, and who my new supplier was. I don't blame the hapless front line employees, instead the directors, who have cynically failed to maintain their systems, are to blame.
I'm inclined to accost strangers in the street to persuade them not to try Scottish Power, especially if, as likely, they may want to change suppliers at some time in the future; for now I'll spread the word on forums such as this.
The ombudsman service was extremely helpful and fairly timely in its assistance.0 -
Hi all,
I applied to switch via CEC 3rd March from Scot Power to co-op and have yet to hear anything from new supplier - I,ve contacted Co-op, who say they don,t have the details. My CEC i formation showed switch in progress.
Emailed CEC who said they would chase and let me know, that was last week - no further information as yet.
Anyone else had this issue - my fixed rate finishes at the end of March, so I am going to pay a premium till I can get this sortedNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Theres something in the FAQ's about suppliers denying any knowledge
Anyway, it sounds like you have the CEC team onto it for you now
Just to let you know, as long as the existing supplier is informed of the intention to leave before the end of the contract, and the switch occurs in a resonable time, you will remain of the current tariff even if the switch does take place past the stated end date.0 -
Not sure if this has been discussed before but I just went through the annual comparison of Electric only tariffs for my OAP Mum to see what the best deal was now that oil has dropped.
100% of the sites gave the same energy company iSupplyEnergy as the cheapest supplier.
I was within a whisker of signing up for it when I discovered that not all companies are in the Warm Home Discount scheme, which is worth £140 pa every Christmas. And iSupplyEnergy is not in it. I naively thought all companies were in it as it is a Government scheme.
Most comparison sites do not ask if you want to check energy providers that are in the Warm Home scheme so it's well worth making a note of which energy companies are in the scheme and who isn't otherwise if you are eligible for the £140 each year you will miss out on it if you go with the wrong supplier.
https://www.gov.uk/the-warm-home-discount-scheme/eligibility
The other thing I noted is that the cheapest deal from that same supplier "iFix May 2016 Direct" is only available direct from the supplier yet they have an almost identical sounding tariff "iFix May 2016" which you can get through comparison sites but which is 4p per day more expensive, presumably to claw back any money you may get from going through the comparison sites (0.04 x 365 = £14.60 which is approx the single energy cashback) So well worth studying the name of the tariff and the tariff rate before committing to any changes.
Finally, the tariff my Mum is switching from had a slightly higher consumption rate per KWhr compared to what is available today but the Standing Charges being offered today have rocketed from 12p per day to 20p per day !
Oil prices have fallen 30% so they have to reduce their direct energy KWhr consumption charge but they massively increase the Standing Charge pence per day to claw most of it back, leaving the consumer with only a marginal saving from last year. So again we are still being ripped off by the energy companies0 -

There doesn't seem to be anything in their Licence Conditions which compels them to keep you on your current tariff until the switch so is there a Code of Practice or something which they have agreed to?Warning: In the kingdom of the blind, the one-eyed man is king.

I applied on the 5th January to switch to the Coop via CEC. Had the welcome pack on the 15th January from the Co op. On the 19th January I supplied my meter readings to the Coop and was then advised on the 9th Febuary my switch would take place on the 20th Febuary 2015. Today I received an email from CEC to say they had paid the £30 transfer fee into my bank. I think the switch time was reasonable ! (yesterday I even had a man from the Coop read my meters although not sure why as I was away at the time)0 -
