Ethics don`t come into to it.
CEC is making money doing this so don`t feel too bad using someone else if the need arises.

It`s amazing how a whole new industry has been created by switching.
The suppliers are squealing they have to put prices up because of costs yet they`re chucking in £60 a switch.

    Who`s kidding who here?
    Spot on.
It's a business and they're all in it to make money.
Shop around and look for the best deal for you.

Thanks for your input 2010 and Victor2, perhaps I'm just a bit too "old fashioned"!

Anyone got a list of the switcheroo companies, I used to come to MSE for them but obviously the guide is now focused on CEC?

    Cheers

Having already registered with "Cheap Energy Club" in October and have had a notice that I was at the stage "switch in progress" was activated, I had a letter in the post from Npower to say that my present energy tariff with npower is ending soon and it was time to choose a new tariff. So I called them and said that MSE CEC had selected the fixed 2017 tariff of me. They have said that they had no notification from MSE "Cheap Energy Club" to that effect and furthermore I now find out this would have been £658 more on that tariff! So they have suggested to go on a fixed April 2015 tariff . I have to ask where is the saving with this Cheap Energy Club?

Anyone who`s current tariff is coming to an end is not going to save anything because prices have gone up.
They don`t only go up annually but every time a new tariff comes out, which is every other week.

As regards cashback, you only get this when you switch SUPPLIER.

If anyone on EDF Blue Fix Feb 2015 hasn't noticed, their Blue Fix April 2015 has quite a bit cheaper unit prices for both Gas and Electricity, certainly in the South East area anyway, so it's worth switching as you'll save a fair bit over the next 17 months.

. . .I know all companies are doing away with non standard charge tariffs (thanks ofgem) but wondered if there was a better tariff option somewhere for my circumstances. . .
Some companies do offer a zero standing-charge tariff (e.g. Ebico) so I would suggest you see where they come in your list from a comparison site.

Zero standing charge is likely to mean higher unit rates, however.

  • i moved over to better energy from british gas, staff on the phone were great, very helpful, they took all the legwork out of swapping. i should have done this years ago. all i had to do was send the old & new supplier a meter reading. ...just waiting for bg to send me a refund back!
  • I have just switched utilities using a link on the MoneySaving expert site... said I would get £30 cash back. How do I reclaim this cash back which will be due 8 weeks after I have switched?

It should go automatically to your bank account where your DD is set up.
